I spotted one on my way across Kansas. Here's a few terrible photos but better than nothing.

i like the bigger grills. now there's no little "mouth" under the grill like the current version which I've always disliked.

That's precisely why I can't stand the new X4 and X6.

They messed up a simple body crease on those cars just like this one. My goodness.

These grilles will just blend in with the rest of the design when they reveal the car. For now they appear massive because well they are pretty big but also it's the only part of the fascia that is clearly distinguishable, and they're the only shiny bit so they stand out.

But when we'll see the whole thing with the long headlights and we'll get a proper look at how muscular the car is thanks to a normal paint job that won't hide the lines, then the big kidney grilles will make sense.

Plus the vertical grille slats should be blacked out on the base model and M Sport (versus chrome on the Luxury and Cerium Gray on the M Performance), so only the grille outline will remain visible on these versions

Just now noticed that line on the sides that looks to lift up over the rear wheels. Looks terrible. Hopefully it just looks bad due to the camo.

I love the looks of the current gen. Does that mean they're going to be cheap soon?

The current gem is by far my favourite luxury suv in that class. Simply amazing looks. Will pick one up one day

Way to go. Great insight. Thanks for contributing. See you again in ~5-6 years.

Oh well. It'll probably look weird on initial reveal, then we'll get used to it, it'll grow on us, someone will put aftermarket wheels on it, and it'll become the best model year yet .
Well to be fair, how many BMWs since around '09 have been superior BMWs relative to their predecessors? Sure they've become better all-around vehicles (more luxury, tech, etc.) but they've become way less engaging to drive. The downfall began with the E89 Z4 and F10 5er.

As far as X5s go, the E70 is definitely more well regarded within the BMW community than the F15. I've driven both and see why. My folks won't dump their E70 carbon black X5 M sport since the new model is numb and not much different inside and out.

True, but the N63 is terrible from maintenance standpoint. That's part of the reason why I'm in an F80 now.

Proportions a matter of taste?

This was a breakthrough line for BMW with the original model’s launch. Since then the design was refined then evolved to bland. In this one I see troubling proportions in the glass house to body ratio and the grill.

Again, is it a matter of taste or am I correct to see the design imbalance?

Exactly, take a look at F15's inside, one can easily tell most placement of the interior equipment are the same as the E70, it's basically riding on the same platform. To me it's just BMW's way of squeezing out a few more years on that platform before moving onto a brand new platform.

is it just me or Bangle's era design (Exx, esp E70) still looks much more appealing..?

I need to upgrade my aging E70 soon but I just can't find a better SUV design..

It's difficult to top the E70 in looks, the F15 sure as hell hasn't done it.

The E90 was better looking than the F30.

Heck, the Bangle 7er LCI is one of the most handsome luxury sedans ever. The two 7ers since have been very bland inside and out and their piss poor sales reflect that.

I was into BMW for many years for the very opposite of this. I look at spied future cars like the next X5 and I am almost certain the what's coming around the corner, just look at the X3 and X1, X2 ..Oh yes wait and see the X7 for an XXL option....
Having the interiors similar is fine with me. I have 3 BMW's and wife and I jump back and forth between vehicles all the time, and I for one, an glad I don't have to be retrained everytime I want to adjust something. My wife as copilot can set the nav, display the performance, range, etc, and I keep my eyes on the road. I have no problems in them being the same, only a little different.

You need to be careful man, you can't use words like "my wife" you will go to jail for that.
