Is anyone else's auto-hold *too strong*?

I cant believe I never asked this before but on our g05, the auto-hold brake is very jerky from moving to stop, and then again from stop to moving. The feature works fine as it should but it makes for a pretty abrupt launch whenever it disengages.

I usually use the back up assistant to back out of the garage every day, but with the auto-hold enabled, pretty much every day I have to step harder on the gas to release it and then immediately i step on the brake because its just going too fast for me.

the auto-hold feature is damn near perfect on our f15. its very smooth and overall, i still like the feature, but I'm wondering if that was just a change to the g05 to make it so strong, or if I just got one that is like this. And if so, will the local dealer be able to adjust it when I take it in for service in a couple of months?

It can be adjusted. This one is fine, but I've had to have it adjusted on one previous one.

It's pretty smooth on mine. Engages and disengages fairly invisibly, but I would probably turn off if I needed to do precision parking.

it is very smooth on my G05 too. It is almost the same as the F15.

Is this a relatively quick fix or adjustment or are they going to have to order a whole new system of brakes or whatever?

Okay so we have an issue on ours. Because it's night and day between our f15 and the g05. Thanks

Haven't had to have mine adjusted, but I think it just engages the parking brake electronically, triggered by the brake pedal, so should be a simple fix.

I hope so. I'm dreading going to the dealer with all of these part shortages but I'll be sure to bring it up when it gets serviced.

Stepping on the brakes manually produces predictable results every time so hopefully it is an easy adjustment or maybe some sort of software glitch

I use mine every morning...works very smoothly. Though, at times, the ASS seems to shut the engine down a micro-second too soon while coming to a stop.

Mine is a bit jerky but I never had F15 to compare. Thought this was normal but from the thread it seems it is not. Will get mine looked at next time.

Yes mine does that too sometimes. It'll shut off the engine and then coast to a stop a half second later.

I haven't found a use for the auto hold yet on the X5. I used it occasionally on my last car on hills with the manual transmission. What are people using it for on the X5? Maybe I'm missing out

I notice that when the auto hold kick in it leaves your rear brake lights on, same as if you had your foot on the brake. Quite useful if you have traffic coming up behind at speed. I use the auto hold as default on the vehicle.

The main reason many people use it, is after coming to a complete stop, you don't have to hold your foot on the brake pedal and then just press the accelerator and the brakes released and you are on your way. Laziness is a better description.....

although i'm not entirely sure (or care to find out) but with auto-hold, if you get rear ended while stopped, it'll keep the brakes applied. but its mostly because of laziness.

My 2019 G05 X5 was really grabby to the point it would be thump when letting go. I turned the feature off to get a few miles on the brakes. It did smooth out.
My current X7 M50i auto-hold is almost seamless and silent. I can’t even tell it’s even on. I live on a mountain in a rural hilly area so it does have its purpose. I can see it being really useful if you were pulling a trailer and stopped on a hill or at the boat launch backing your boat down the ramp.

Probably one of those automated comfort features it would be easy to do without, but I actually missed it on my Q7. It also provides a moderate safety enhancement, for example, waiting in the multi-car line for the ATM, or Burger King drive-through, without having to constantly be aware of your foot on the brake looking for your wallet or change, reaching through the window for your Big Mac combo or breaking up a fight between your 8 year-old progeny. Many high-end vehicles have it, and it does have some utility.

I already have about 5000 miles on the clock but the auto-hold feature was active since day 1. are you saying if I take it off for a while it'll smooth out? i really don't want to take it into the dealer unless I have to

I use the auto hold feature to address, what has been for me, a poor driver seating position. Because I could never find a great seating position I starting using the auto hold to relieve the slight discomfort while holding onto the brake myself. Especially useful at long lights or in traffic. May sound weird but it definitely makes a difference for me.

To the OP, the feature works pretty smoothly for me, however, I do disengage the feature at times when I need really slow speeds while parking.

I don’t know, mine did after about 3k miles. If I were you, I would let my dealer adjust it next routine service.
