I was looking at pacific bmws used x5 list and I'm seeing a huge number of them with very very low miles. It almost seems like a dumping ground for low mileage used x5s. Makes me wonder if these are some kind of batch of refurbished cars or press cars or something? Anyone have any ideas??
Makes me skittish about getting one... https://www.pacificbmw.com/used-vehi...ear%5B%5D=2019 |

The most likely idea I came up with is occasionally manufacturers offer their vehicles for people to drive during events, competitions, etc.. For example all the players in the US Open might get a car to drive around while they are at the tournament. I noticed a lot of the cars were white... Might explain it.

Doesn’t seem to be very aggressive pricing despite the miles at roughly 10% off msrp. Fairly easy to achieve that on a 2020 custom factory order with zero miles.

They have 2 50i`s that would be worth a second look IMO. You might be able to get one for what you might have paid for a 40i. These vehicles still have a full warranty and hopefully haven’t been pushed at all.

These are most likely service loaners, or as the sales rep like to call "executive demos"

Some dealerships distinguish loaners from executive demos, but in the end I think it's all the same game.
Put a few thousand miles on the car so that it can be leased or sold at a discount. BMW knows they can sell X number of cars at MSRP, 7% off MSRP, 10-13% off MSRP, etc. To get to the group of buyers who can buy at 15-20% below MSRP, BMW has these low mileage demos. It lets them sell to the higher profit margin groups and also sell to the buyers who have less to spend without doing crazy massive discounts off MSRP which would hurt the brand's image as a luxury brand and piss off the buyers who bought closer to MSRP. That's actually one of the keys with these demo cars, they are leasable, whereas a used car is not. I've seen some good discounts on demo cars and I've seen bad discounts. Bad discounts are basically 1-2k off what you could have negotiated off a brand new car. Thats not enough of a discount in my eyes, but then again a car with < 5k miles and untitled is practically new. Just make sure it was not in any accidents, minor & unreported or major. *If you actually think an "executive" at BMW drove that car, well I think the answer is probably not. It could be anyone in the chain. I believe the port workers get use of a new car every year, it could be anyone really and is probably not a C level executive, but damn thats some good marketing. They might be BMWNA cars sold to dealers. If it's that they're typically sold as new with full warranty. Unless things have changed.

And so many white ones with the same msrp. Weirdness. Some say 1 owner, others say nothing about previous ownership. I'd love to hear more about where these gems came from.

Yes, my dealer has a LOT of service loaners. They won't keep them for too many miles - can't remember the limit - so as to maximize the resell value.

I started a chat session with Pacific to ask about them but the chat person said although they did indeed see them in their inventory system, they would have to inquire and get back to me as to why they are as they are. 13 X5's Alpine White with black SensaTec and all at the same price and between 1-2K miles. Well, I'm not interested in buying one and didn't want to give them my contact info so I never found out why |

According to my Service Director and Sales Manager they must pull a loaner car out of service before it hits 5,000 miles in order to be able to receive compensation from BMW and sell it as new with incentives/current financing. After 5k, BMW will no longer allow them to use incentives to sell it.

Seems no matter which dealer has given me a service loaner over the years, when I go to get in it, I end up calling them over to clean the interior first...some were disgusting. The last one was in Florida, they had to clean someones left over McDonalds burger wrapper, complete with melted cheese, old coffee cup, crumbs on the front seats, carpeting and center console, not to mention plenty of greasy finger prints.
It was a new X3 with less than 1K miles and was their last X3 loaner available that day and that's what I wanted to drive. In fact, now that I'm writing this, it happened twice at that same dealership. So in terms of how the loaner cars are driven, yeah, take a guess! |
