How many miles did your car have upon delivery?
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I'm just curious to see how many miles your car had upon delivery. My X6 came with 12 miles. It was a custom build. My 2018 M4, which was a custom build also, had 4 miles when I took delivery of it. I'm just curious. I know the dealer has to fill up the gas tank, etc… However, there is a gas station right around the corner from where my dealer is. 12 miles do seem a bit high in my opinion. Thank you! |

Good question...
My first 2021 X5M came with 3 miles on the odometer. It was custom ordered and I did a PCD delivery. I picked it up from the Greer plant on 10-20-2020. This vehicle was awesome, everything worked like it should and absolutely no rattles, creaks, or noises. My second 2021 X5M came with 14 miles on the odometer. It also was a custom order and I did a PCD delivery with this one as well. I picked this one up on 7-13-2021. When i saw 14 miles , I thought it was a bit high since I'm picking it up from the factory, but I didn't question it. This vehicle had problems, most of which have been solved by my dealer. I wont go into details because I don't want to thread hijack. I meant to reach out to WILD BLUE because if im not mistaken, he had similar miles on his X7 as well. |

I'm just trying to understand why 12 miles. If someone at the dealer drove for a lot more miles than they should have, they should be held accountable by management. Thank you for replying. |

I did PCD as well and X had 13 miles on odometer at delivery. I asked and was told that every vehicle should have at least 3 or 4 miles. Some have as many as 30 miles on them. There was an X in the next delivery room to mine with 25 miles on it. Its actually very common. Most all of these miles are put on from factory line to transport. Not necessarily at dealer level. If not loaded onto a truck or train straight from the factory line, theres actually quite a lot of jockeying around these vehicles go through before ending up in your driveway. It starts with the testing at the end of the factory line. Its on rollers and not real mileage. If the computer detects any variance from where all of the various sensors and readings should be, after any adjustment, it goes through the whole process again which is several miles of wheel travel. Again, its on rollers so the car is stationary. Its a cool process to see. I got to see it on my first PCD. My last PCD, they didnt take us to that part of the line. Ive seen it in the Munich factory as well.

Just for comparison if you buy off the lot it could have hundred something easy, and not necessarily from test-drives. A lot of dealer trades/swaps happen, and often those trades are just driven to the dealership which may be 50-100 miles away. I think the law says it can have up to thousand or more actually and still sell as ‘new’, though I’m sure that is extremely rare.

12 on my current '22 X6MC. My '19 had 5. One a while back had 25. I always order mine.

There were 28 on my F95 that I just picked up in late June. The worst bit is that all the BMWFS docs were drawn up with the number they'd originally told me, 8.
When I asked about it, it ended up being a 'take it or leave it' situation and I didn't have the mental fortitude to start all over when sitting 300 miles from home and looking down decent $ numbers anyways, so I just went with it. Makes me wonder sometimes whether it was even worth my babying it for the next 1172 miles till break-in or if that was an entirely pointless exercise due to some early abuse, but who knows. I suppose I can just do my bit and not worry about the unknown. |

My custom order had 7 miles on it when I saw it come off the truck.
The lowest mileage I have ever seen on a new vehicle (over 30) that I purchased was on a 1998 Honda Accord Coupe EX V6 and a 2001 Honda Goldwing. Each one had 0.9 miles on them. Yes that's less than one mile on each. |

This has come up before in the forum. In addition to what has been mentioned, there are also some cars at the factory that are randomly selected for further quality testing and may have extra miles from that. Rest assured, its not from a 10 mile joyride.
Any car not ordered or sold on a dealer lot is fair game for a test drive. But really its a moot point, any car that has not been titled before qualifies as "new" regardless of mileage. So the manager's demo car, the test drive car, or a car in the loaner fleet can be sold as a "new" car. In some cases the factory warranty may have already started because of a mileage threshold that has been crossed. Despite the mileage or warranty status on those cars the advantages is that they qualify for new car incentives and discounts, but unfortunately it doesn't mean you are going to get a significantly better price because of the mileage on them.

Just curios, could you ask the dealer to pull the codes from the car and see if it's been redlined before your pick up and how many times? I wonder if you'd have recourse if you found out your BNIB rig was LC'd 5 times.
