LCI cost cutting measures

Would love to talk to the committee that decided on the cost cutting measures on the LCI. I’m finding a bunch of small touches that I had in the pre-LCI missing and it is a bummer.

Still love the improvements tho - oh well.

i)Pre LCI had an option of galvanized (gloss black) switches for windows ect. Guy who works at the dealer told me.
ii) alcantara headliner also for the sun shade
iii) front lights cover shell is not as good quality imo as it has a certain reflection when lights are on, pre LCI crystal clear

Thats all I can think of

On that particular cheap out the only thing I care about is the plastic trim and cheaper looking buttons. That missing buttons don't bug me. Nowadays once the lights are set up the car takes care of it all. I already can't recall how the lights were adjusted in the car I turned in weeks ago: Switched to auto, played with the brightness during the first few days, never touched it again.

On the other hand, the incessant shaves for a penny of profit, those show a lack of respect, not just for the customer, but for the product. I understand the nature of profit, I am my own business, I get it. I also understand that my customers can go elsewhere.

Some years ago I was watching an AMA, Warren Buffett was asked if he thought that not getting on board with streaming was the principle driver in the demise of Blockbuster. He said that was only a symptom of the real problem; which was arrogance: They believed they were too big to fail, that their customers would buy what they wanted to sell.

I'm in no way saying this would happen to BMW, but I do think it hurts their business. Any business really.

My problem is when I'm asked to give a review of the CAR not of the DEALER by BMW and I lay into stuff like this, my dealer gets alerted that I'm leaving a negative review which negatively affects my dealer and the salesperson who sold me the car. This just happened with my m2;

eg, can't change to day/night mode, etc etc.

BMW need to allow double tap on front door handle to unlock all doors like VW.
I’ve had a rental of VW Tiguan and it was a nice feature on a cheap car.

Steering response headlights? They are standard in Pre LCI base. They are also standard much less expensive non luxury car brands.

Still works thankfully. I feel the LCI is clearer at night but I could just be biased

The sunroof shade also (roll on piece that covers the sunroof glass). Not thinking of the two sun shades.

Oh, I specifically ordered my car without the sunroof (mine is a European version, one of the options the US market doesn’t allow for whatever reason, as far as I can tell…)

I can't believe such a small part was downgraded on the LCI, after owning a Lexus LC500 I always felt the pre LCI F95 interior to be so cheap. It's the little things that count for me.

My neighbor has a 2023 LC500 and he pointed out that the bottom of the interior door card is plastic, speaker cover is in cloth (which isn't good because it's likely to get struck with the shoe getting in and out), whereas the entire door card on the X5M is merino leather. He also wishes the LC500 had soft close doors.
I expected better of the LC500.

That would be a great idea. Back in 2017, I ordered a 2017 Ford Expedition King Ranch w/o the sunroof...sales rep was looking at me funny because not many SUVs did not have this feature. Sunroofs are so 80's, maybe even earlier, when it was hot to have one in you car. Now it's useless...at least for me...

The little plastic didn’t bother me one bit, I loved the gorgeous alacantara seats and top of the steering wheel it really complemented the rest of the superb interior with the way the stitching is designed on the seats also some of the best I’ve seen. The carbon fiber door sills really stand out and the buttons are top notch, extremely sturdy and you can feel the high quality, aluminum I believe. Never once had a problem with hitting the speaker with the shoe and neither did any of my family members or friends and I would e def noticed it cause we were always packing in it 4 deep (we’re all really skinny so we all fit perfectly in it) and with the alacantara being in “toasted caramel” as Lexus likes to call it, I was always checking to make sure no stains accidentally got on any of it. The doors though I do have to admit bothered me a tiny bit but not because of not having soft close doors, mostly because in any tight space it was very difficult to open them all the way up . They were angled in a way that made it where you kinda had to open them up more than usual to squeeze out and in a tight space it was very annoying.

The one that p*sses me off the most is the headlights. I do believe the headlights are a significant downgrade from the previous models. It looks like an old bi-xenon light from 2009. And the headlight covers are sure not crystal clear.

How does and why should the dealer know about your account here? I imagine they only know because you have given them that information and further, they have reason to expend resources to track your posts so as to be “alerted” - how did you come to be in this situation?

The headlights frustrate me the most. Fundamentally, these are entry level headlights in a vehicle that, with all taxes etc., cost about $150k out the door. It’s completely unacceptable.

The lack of comfort access in the rear also cheapens the experience.

The final “cheapening out” is BMW not putting in the effort to validate highway assist for the M cars, but that is a personal not for me.

I got the generic bmw feedback thing about my m2 purchase, and some of the questions asked about how I felt about BMW as a brand, their direction etc. I answered them truthfully. However, since corporate views it as a "dealer experience" rather than "brand experience", it counts as a black mark against my dealer/ salesperson. He's my buddy and told me that corporate said that I flamed them on the review.

As I've said before, this is probably my last X5M since the LCI is shit. Why would I downgrade? The replacement is likely to have even more features removed.
