lowering links issue - help

Hey Guys,

Searched the threads extensively and couldn't find anyone with a similar problem (wishful thinking). Took my car to local tuning shop near me (Hallandale, FL) to install RG SPORT lowering links and long story short - the front's worked but the rear is stuck at maximum height and wouldn't go down > the shop resetted the computer / let it set / etc. and woulnd't calbibrate > they reinstalled the OEM links and still woulnd't return to normal height > dropped the car at the dealer (still under warranty thankfully) and waiting for diagnose

Now I don't believe the links are the issue in any way. Multiple members have installed them with success. I'm assuming maybe the rear sensor was damaged during the installation since the OEM links will not bring the car back to normal height.

I wanted to know your thoughts and if anyone has came across this issue? Plus, I still want to install the lowering links after the suspension is fixed and was wondering if anyone can recommend a shop that has experience installing lowering links on the G05?

appreciate any feedback

The front links need to be elongated in order to lower the front axle (inverse relationship), while the rears need to be made shorter in order to lower the rear axle (direct relationship). Not sure if this will help.

My guess is that the sensor must have been altered. Did you check the sensor that the links attach to on the driver and passenger side to see if they are identical? (See yellow circle in the photo below). Is one bent out of proportion?

Thanks for prompt response. So the shop did follow the exact instructions to setup the links (longer in the front and shorter in the rear).

Also, the picture is with the OEM links reinstalled. Unfortunately I can't confirm if the sensors were altered since its at the dealership now. I'll ask the tuner shop but I doubt they'll remember...

That's my only explanation. If the sensors were altered (perhaps even only on one side), then it makes sense why even when the OEM links are on, it's still on maximum height.

I see what you're saying. To be clear, is the object in the yellow circle the sensor? It looks like a piece of plastic/metal material with no connectors. Apologies in advance for newbie question.

I'm actually not sure if the object circled is a sensor per se, but if you look at the mechanism, the bottom head of the links can get elongated or shortened, and that black piece of plastic moves along with it. However, the circled portion of the car is a fixed point; it does not move. So my understanding is that the car detects the change in distance from that anchor point (where the top head of the link attaches to the fixed point that is circled in yellow), to the bottom of the link. If the circled "sensor" gets bent out of shape, then that can throw off the distance, and hence cause the car to think otherwise.

bforbrian which lowering links did you go with? Just wondering. Yours look like they're all rusted but I assume doesn't affect the integrity of the lowering link.

bforbrian Makes sense and greatly appreciate the feedback. Did you install links yourself? If so, did you remove the wheels or simply raise the height to max for clearance?

“Faulty sensors”… clearly they were damaged during the installation but the dealership replaced and everything is cool now

Now I’m just looking for a local shop in Miami who actually has experience installing them. Any recommendations would be helpful

That makes sense that suspension stuck at full height. Damaged sensor gives wrong reading to the car.

The only place I can recommend for that type of work is Wheels Boutique. It is a bit south but that is the only place I have done work with. There are a few places in Broward I have heard of but none that I have use. How much are you looking to lower the car?
