Exhaust pipe trim paint peeling off - normal?

I've noticed that the black paint on the driver's side trim that goes around exhaust pipe is peeling off - on edges and under exhaust pipe trim "entry". Am thinking that this is rather a defect than normal wear-and-tear thing. Car is less than two months old and at about 2700 miles now. The passenger side exhaust pipe trim shows no defects so far.

What is your take on it? Thanks!

Known issue with many M240i, X3/4s and some early model year G05/6/7s though not as prevalent.

You can get it replaced under warranty:

Thanks!
Talked to my SA - he'll be ordering new part under warranty - as one-time BMW-approved replacement. Why it'll be "one-time" - not sure. I deem should be as many times as needed to get customer happy with the issue being resolved. Go figure!

Our X5 is getting its driver's side surround replaced later this week under warranty. The passenger side looks fine.

sounds like BMW will take care of it under warranty...

good thing i painted/blackout the chrome exhaust trim. that extra layer of paint probably prevented from any chip/flaking. might want to consider doing the same after warranty. imo looks so much better plus it was a fairly easy job to do.

2022 X5 exhaust pipe paint flaking

Just called dealer to take a look, seems like it should be covered by warranty. Drivers side worse. Goofy of this to happen to a BMW.

It has always been a problem with G-series. I had this problem back in 2019 on my MY2017 BMW 7 and then in 2021 on my BMW X5 MY21.

Glad I found this. Just noticed this on my 2022 X5. At the service center now who claims they’ve heard of this before, so it better be covered by warranty

Beware. The replacement parts don't suffer from the paint peeling problem because they are unpainted.

I refused the unpainted option and had the dealership fit them to a car that was in stock so I could have the painted pair from that.
