Did brakes on all 4 corners, exhaust, rebuilt the valve body in the transmission, rebuilt the carburetor multiple times.
I had a late 70's Monte Carlo, too. The first car that was all mine. Loaded beast.

Just like this one. Same color scheme.

I had an Orange Krate, if you remember what those are. Had the "birth control" shifter right on the top tube.
I remember those! Yours had those springer forks!

Yup, and a drum brake on the front. That brake was touchy as fuck, and that wheel was tiny. I'm surprised my nuts survived it.

I wanted one of those, but my folks (who were a lot smarter than I was at the time) bought us Schwinn 10-speeds. It was the right move, of course, as we were getting into our teens. But I was still disappointed.

Nice color! They downsized them in '78. Mine was the full-sized land yacht. In about '84 I upgraded to a '70 Eldorado. That was the flagship of the fleet.

My first car was a yellow 1970 Dodge Demon, 318 4 speed. It was a little rough around the edges, but like many of us old farts, I had to earn the money and pay for it if I wanted a car. No "Here are the keys to your birthday present" for me. LOL.... I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Yeah, same here now that I have the perspective of old-fart-hood. My wrenching buddy and best friend got a mint 1965 Chevy Impala SS 427 for Christmas our senior year in high school. He (well, we) trashed that thing. Had to drive it home in 3rd gear one night 'cause we blew all the rest of 'em.

1969 Firebird, I bought it from a buddy of mine for $500. It was actually in pretty good shape, although it was a bit temperamental. I was 16, that was in 1977......I still have a soft spot for the old Birds.

My first relatively serious GF had a 69 Firebird. I learned to do J-turns in that car (self taught)!

I had one just like this as my 2nd car. The first one was silver and the third one was white. Then I moved into a Merkur XR4-Ti (the second car).

Wifey's first car was a '91 Ford Escort that had around 60,000 miles on it when we donated to some car donation place in 2006. We then bought her a new Civic. She still has that 2006 Civic and it's about to trip over 44,000 miles. Wifey isn't going to win any high mileage awards.

I was tempted to say that you could steer with your Schwantzstucker while you opened a long-neck Budweiser, but even I'm not that gifted.

Hey, an XR4Ti! I had the sister car, an '84 Mustang SVO!

The Ford F250 we had had a hand choke. You had to know how to use it, or you'd turn the top end of the motor into a Superfund site.

The fun trick we used to do was to pull that choke out when decelerating with the throttle fully closed, to load up the exhaust with unburned gas. Then let go of the choke and go to WOT. She'd clear her throat and then let out a hell of a bang and send a huge fireball out the back when all that raw gas caught fire. After every 3 or 4 times pulling that stunt, I'd be underneath it putting the midpipe back together with the rusty U-bolts. That's some innocent fun, right there. Ah, simple pleasures.
