shipping out of State

Hi Guys,

I'm in the process of buying out of State, never did a trade before, I need to ship the car.

the question is, I'm paying for the shipping of both cars, I'm assuming I need to ship my car first and then have the dealer do inspection in order for them to release the vehicle, am I correct?
also is it better doing a enclosed trailer I would think for peace of mind
Thank you

I'd probably do enclosed trailer for the new one but not the one you're trading only because most dealers already have some cost built into your trade for cleaning it up and fixing minor issues. As far as them releasing the new vehicle, that's probably true depending on how you're structuring the deal. They can't do the paperwork and put a final price or even accurate trade info until they have the vehicle and can compare the VIN and condition. You could always buy the new and have shipped and then get paid back for the trade BUT the problem with that is you won't have the tax savings advantage of the trade to reduce your purchase price. Hopefully that makes sense.

What did you end up doing? Who did you use for shipping? I am in a similar situation and working with a shipping broker but it been posted and not getting any hits from anyone. Apparently there is more demand than there are drivers/trucks available

I've used these folks a few times, not cheap, but very timely and effective.

This is a 1st class carrier, no doubt. They deliver top end vehicles to exhibitions like concourse de Italiano / Pebble Beach...

I used them twice back about 15 yrs ago, very impressive operations. Super clean trucks, uniformed drivers, cars well protected, was informed all the way and the car arrived spotless. Having said all that, it was over $2K from coast to coast...I would imagine it would be close to $3K nowadays.

Yes, I shipped my F90 coast to coast with a similarly rated carrier and paid 3.5K.

It was well worth it IMO. I was notified every step of the way, including loading etc.

When you think about gas, hotels, food, and if you're me, alcohol, the shipping really isn't that spendy.

I got a quote for $2500 from SC to NYC for $2500. They did seem good but my broker was able to get a enclosed carrier for $1300 so I went with that , luckily no issues and they were very quick.

Depending on the state the new vehicle is being purchased in you may need a notary to sign the final paperwork. Just had that issue come up for the first time in a recent purchase.

Yes. I finally completed my journey a few weeks ago. I literally had to deal with 9 different people for this out of state transaction.

-Car broker
-transport broker
-notary scheduler
-notary person
-dealership salesperson
-dealership finance manager
-dispatch for first transport
-driver of first transport
-driver of second transport

It was quite stressful to plan all of this, but I was able to get 5% off msrp and scored the last available allocation for a ‘24 x5m build so that saved an additional 2.5k.
