New X5 40i MPG Concern

Picked up new 2023 X5 40i last week and noticed highway MPG is coming out to be lower than suggested BMW MPG which is 25 MPG on highway (I know BMW understates that as aswell)

Mine is coming out to be ~22MPG on highway (70-80 mph) and I have a very light foot. Never drive aggressive and always anticipate braking. Is 22 MPG on highway normal or is it low because engine is very new and haven’t broke in?

Anyone else experienced same MPG in the beginning? Before my purchase I read many blogs where folks were getting 25-27 MPG on highway so this is very conflicting with what I am seeing on my new X5!

Any sights would be appreciated.

If you have the larger offset wheels/tires then you have more rolling resistance than the base model, causing worse mpg. My best guess. I average 22-23 and don’t baby it.

Winter gas doesn’t help.

Confirmed your PSI is correct? (Over our 3 yr lease we averaged 24 mpg of mixed driving)

Driving mode?

Location? Winter fuel mix also reduces mpg and emissions

Colder weather takes fluids longer to warm up therefore more resistance on drive train, reducing MPG’s

Same setup with 19s and same average. Our commute is 50/50 local roads (stop and go) and highway. On road trips it bumps up to 23-24 mpg.

RFritz Driving mode is comfort and i have a light foot. Location is Philadelphia area. Last week has been cold here but we our winters are mild compared to mid-west and New England.

I’ll wait and see once weather warms up a little and see how it turns out on road trips

My guess is winter gas always has worst mpg and with the engine being newer is a factor too.

Same here… the larger staggered sets of wheels doesn’t help, neither the constant battery charging while not accelerating, it seems to waste more gas than saving in my opinion.

Generally speaking, I think the estimates are based on ideals that are not achievable in day to day driving. The only times I've had the advertised results in any vehicle is during a road trip driving in the dead of night (with no traffic) using cruise control.
