I really wanted to get one in Malachite Green, but wasn't willing to pay up for the paint on a car with so many missing options. For non-490 paints, I go back and forth between Dravit and Tanzanite.
I ended up with a '21 in BSM. I bought it as much for the rest of the build as for the color, but I admit it does look really nice for about 5 minutes after each wash. |

In Germany, it is a regular catalogue color for the X5 (any type), but labeled as "individual" with a higher surcharge (about 2k, not the 5k for "real" individual color).

The best color is the color that works for us. Sometimes we love certain color but choose something else due to different reasons... ease of care, cost, ... and of course wife I think G05 looks best in black. I can't accept Black without metallic. So I ended up with Dark Graphite. Not what I want but it works out OK. Not as hard to maintain as Black. IMO the M Sport with black wheels would look nice with Ultra White. G05's white is not as white. In any case, I haven't seen an "ugly" color on G05. They all seem to look nice. Must be the design itself.

I did get the Tanzanite paint - it is the only BMW I have owned that people complement me all the time on the paint colour. Great colour. |

We have had, a gray (was a long time ago), white, silver, and 2 arctic gray X-5s. Our latest will be Grigio Tellesto, so we will see if we like that more than Arctic Gray.

Totally love my tanzanite blue M50…but it is only one notch less of a pain to keep looking nice than my prior black vehicles…though I could argue it’s worse since I feel more compelled to baby this $1950 paint job more than the freebie black paint.

100% subjective…
That said, we usually go white/silver/gray for our cars with the sole exception being my Porsche in Dark Blue Metallic. I was leaning towards Tanzanite for my wife’s new X5 so they’d match (damn close anyway): …but then we saw one in Manhattan Green and fell in love: However, in our opinion, the BEST color is one BMW doesn’t offer for the X5, even under the Individual paint program: Bluestone Metallic. We would have happily paid the $5K up charge for that color…and seriously thinking of buying a 8-series just to have a car in that color in the garage. Seriously. |

We looked hard at that color, as well as the Limerock gray before going with MGM. Would love to see pics!

Someone did a BRG X5M; post from the dealer on here somewhere. I had a BRG ‘91 Miata and love that color on a sports car, especially a smaller convertible, but not sure I like it on a large SUV.

CGG posted that Tanzanite is available on all X5 models for a very modest upcharge ($1150) in Canada, not the insulting $5k in the US, and even then only on the V8 models here. How could this be?
All X5s come out of the same Spartanburg factory using the same people, tools, PAINT BOOTH, processes, etc. How does such wild pricing differences make any sense? Another example of the arbitrary choices about what options are available in different markets. I just don't understand BMW thinking sometimes. |
