when do you use one touch turn signal

I am naive to this feature. When do you actually use it? I see the option one times and 3 times in the iDrive selection. But not exactly sure the practical use of it. Whenever I change lane or have to make a turn I either push the lever up or down based on the direction I want to go. But not sure when do I exactly use the one touch.

I just drove 2000 miles and pretty much never used it. 3 blinks isn't enough, and its just not much effort to hold the stalk against the stop when changing lanes.

i'm confused. one-touch or one-time signal?

personally, i never use the one-time turn signal. i think it's meant for quick lane changers, but i'm a slow lane changer, so even the three-time signal isn't long enough for my maneuver. i actually coded and frequently use the five-time turn signal when changing lanes. when turning, i'll fully engage the turn signal stalks.

I use it all the time. One touch to change lanes, continuous to make a turn.

I meant this option. See attached.

The only time I use one touch (3 blinks) signal for lane changes is when no one is close behind me and I can change lanes quickly without waiting for an opening. I don’t want to be “that cliché BMW guy” who doesn’t use turn signals lol. All other times I just use the continuous signal.

It's for changing lanes, and also activates a lane change depending on the CC you have. FWIW, in VT, the traffic law as I understand it is to have your directionals blink at least 3x prior to actually changing lanes. It's intended to be an indication of intent, not immediate action, and yes, you can code the option of 5-blinks, which is more useful.

You can code (bimmercode) it to add option for 5 blinks instead of just 3 and then it becomes super useful for changing lanes. I use it extensively.

If you have to ask, your car is obviously low on blinker fluid

I as well use the one touch very frequently for lane change.

With the LCI and DAP it initiates automatic handsfree lane change. It will abort the function if you actually use the turn signal.

I was having hard time using automatic lane change when DAP is activated. Now I know what I am doing wrong. Thanks for that info.

BimmerCode is an app (www.bimmercode.app) that allows you to change some presets in the code. It's often referred to as coding, but it's not as if you're actually writing a program, you're changing already existing 'switches' in the code to change or enable functionality. You need an OBD II adapter to connect to the vehicle that communicates with the app. BimmerCode is, at least in 'normal' mode, pretty much pick an option off of a menu, then tell it to recode the module.

On minis (made by BMW) uou get the option of 5 times in the menu, odd that Bmw don't have this, 5 times is much better.

No one really answered the OP's question. The concept is so that you don't have to push up the lever to turn off the signal for a lane change. They presume that when you are ready for a lane change, you can quickly perform it, so thereby allow you to maintain control of the wheel.

I use it all the time. Just make sure your blinker fluid is topped off

I'd use it more if the midway stopping point weren't so soft. I can't tell you how many times i've tried to use but press too hard and it goes to regular blinker mode.

I always thought BMW drivers were exempt from using turn signals.

There are tons of videos on youtube the shows how easy it is to use.

Then if you go to their website...you can pull up the list of supported coding specifically for your model...and you can scroll down the alphabetized list to see what codings can be done (on the easy side)...and it also tells you which module the coding will be found.

You can use that list to determine what it is you want to code...jot down the module...then when you have purchased yoru OBD II adapter and the software...start up the app and begin coding your heart out.

Here's a direct link to the supported code options for the G05 X5 & F95 X5M. The list is alphabetized so just click on the topic to see what can be done: https://bimmercode.app/cars/g05/
