So from what I have read, discounts are readily available for xDrive40i and sDrive40i but not much for 45e. What about for an X6? What kind of deals are others seeing right now?

I wouldn't say readily available for the 40i but definitely more prevalent than the 45e or the X6 from what I have seen.

I'm looking to order a fully-loaded X5 xSeries40i that's coming to around $79k. Are there really dealers giving 6-8% off MSRP right now? Best I could do was $2k off. I'm in Los Angeles.

There are probably a few in that range every once and while but for the most part your deal is better than many if not most.

Thanks. Now I'm wondering if it'll be MY22 or 23

There may be some dealers that still have an allocation for MY22 available but very few. Are they asking you to build a MY22 or MY23? I assume a MY22 since you asked the question.

Discounts are hard to get. Some dealerships I hear are stacking the navy fed and military discounts. My dealership wouldn't do that, and they removed my healthcare discount. Best I can tell is that they had a 2k hard cap on how much discount they were willing to take. Tough crowd. Navy fed and military are both truecar. Like others have suggested. I think this is the same discount.

Next up we negotiate tradein

That is not possible since they are the same discount. It can only be put into the system once.

I'm going to start emailing dealers on trying to get 5%+ off...challenge is balancing it with the trade on my x3m. I feel like there's a bit of a multi-variate equation going on when negotiating deals. Also, what's the rate on these deals and what are the dealer fees? 9% off is great, but in the context of a huge dealer fee, bad trade in value, and rate markup...it doesn't look so appealing

For those who want to see 5%+ off in CA here is what you do. Go to Autonation's website. Put in any Bay Area zip code (e.g. 95054) and look at the results for X5. They system may ask you for details. Enter them and enjoy the discounted prices. Penfed's Auto Buying service will send you 10.1% discount offers in your email for the above.

My advice would be don't do them together, it should be two different negotiations. First do the vehicle with no mention of a trade. One that price is established then work on the trade. This way you can maximize the discount and trade value.

I would do both at once, this way he will save his own time and the dealers', some dealers will be at MSRP, but might give him best trade in value and rates.

Yes but you are selling not buying. We are also talking in general not necessarily this market.

You have to admit there is a lot more "wiggle room" when a trade is involved. For example, you can give a bigger discount by giving less for the trade just to make the customer feel better.

I'm going to pick up my car in a couple days and the dealer has one package which I found interesting:

PRO-TECT 5yr/Unlimited amount of claims no cap on miles = $1,495 + Tax
* Unlimited Paintless Ding / Dent Removal (4" less, excludes any non-metal exterior parts of the vehicle)
* Protects Exterior from any fading, tree sap, road salt, insect damage, etc
* Prevents Interior / Exterior Stains (if interior stains can't be wiped off or exterior stains can't be washed off, bring the vehicle in and we'll take care of it)
* UNLIMITED cosmetic RIM repairs (due to curb rash)
* Pro-tects against odors caused by bacteria, microbes, mold, mildew. Fungi and algae cargo

Normally, I don't care to buy these addons but 1500 for unlimited PDR and cosmetic rim repair for 5y seems decent. I need to request more info on it since I want to see the fine print for both (i.e. if I get full front PPF, will they still do the PDR, etc).

X5 metals are fairly thick vs Japanese cars. Do you think its worth it? Also to note that this car will be for my wife who won't park it like I would and the car comes with 21" wheels. I have a separate set of 20" wheels w/all seasons for the winter so those won't get included in the curb rash repair (though prob less likely to curb as well).

Yes, there is more wiggle room and variables for sure. But what matters is the final number. If he starts with the selling price only, he might eliminate dealers that could have given him the best deal overall.

Or more likely, he will leave money on the table.

Of course there really is not a 100% correct answer to getting the best deal since as you said there are so many different variables. It is more of an art than a science.

How common is it for people to get the APR rate for financing advertised on the BMW USA website? For example, they are advertising 3.99% APR for all vehicles right now. It seems dealers commonly try to charge higher than this. Is it relatively common to be able to negotiate down to the advertised rate assuming excellent credit score?

Welcome to the forum. Some dealers are adamant about charging the 1% markup, some will drop it as part of negotiation and others don't bother with. Best just to let them no on the beginning that you won't be paying any dealer markups or for add-ons and you want the base finance rate.

With one of my local dealers I was recently offered the following for new orders:
  • 2023 BMW X5 xDrive 45e = MSRP
  • 2023 BMW X5 xDrive 40i = MSRP - $1000

This was without really any haggling.

Have you seen an actual quote? Most of the bmw dealerships in the area have about 2K of addons.
