Text messages not showing on idrive screen (Android/Samsung)

I have a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and just picked up my new BMW X5 M50i last week. When I am on my home screen there are no notifications of incoming text messages unless I am on the android auto screen. Is this normal behavior? I think not. Any ideas for a fix?

They usually flash across the top of the screen when they first come in, then go away. If you to the top menu under notifications, then you will see them and have the option to respond.
