I mentioned that it was probably to soon and BMW didn't have all of the VIN's involved in the recall included yet. I was hoping if the SIB 09 03 21 didn't get done (obviously not), that hopefully the recall update would update the car. But no luck.
Yes, that would have covered you. You may not be effected by it, according to the recall wording not all vehicles in the date range may be effected.

Failing to get an OTA update is NOT a recall situation...

Prior to OTA updates, BMW would not pay for an update unless the customer complained about something that was 'fixed' by an update or it fixed a safety issue. Using that logic, just not being on the latest update was not a reason to do anything, and it appears that that mindset is persisting.

I never said failing to get an OTA update is a recall situation.

I just wish the dealership would have followed the info on the SIB for vehicles that do not receive OTA updates like the vehicle was designed to do.

What I meant is that scanning the key and the response that there's no recalls is not one and the same thing...

On a previous OTA update, I made the mistake of performing it in my garage. My car was one of the low percentage that bricked. What a hassle. The car was physically frozen and the two truck driver could not move it. It took three tries and a BMW technician to come to my house at the same time as the tow truck driver to get the X5 on the flatbed. They finally sorted it out but what a hassle.

With that lesson learned, today I performed my OTA update to 11/2021.50 while parked at my local BMW Dealer! Of course, with that extra precaution on my part, the OTA update went flawlessly.

I'm looking forward to trying the auto lane change to see what they've done differently.

So far, no issues with the update.

The OTA instructions do highly suggest you do the actual update where the vehicle is accessible. Once it's transferred to the vehicle, it normally doesn't take all that long, so doing it outside shouldn't be that big of a deal for most everyone.

I would imagine after contact BMW you will be getting a call from the dealer to set up the appointment as well as an apology.
Update:
I called BMWNA this am. As soon as they heard the problem has to do with iDrive 7 not updating, they transferred me to Genius. After explaining everything, they said there is nothing more that can be done.
I find that hard to believe. But what else can I do?

Genius would not know anything about it. I would call BMWNA back and ask for a supervisor or case manager and explain the situation.

If you have another dealer nearby you may just want to go to them. Personally I would be back at your original dealer talking to the GM or owner and walking them through the SIB process so they could see how incompetent their staff is. It may also help to open a BBB case and explain everything in there.

Sorry to hear you are going through such a hassle.

Thanks.
I just called my salesguy (has been selling BMW's for over 20 years). I told him what has been going on. He said to next talk with the service manager and if that doesn't help, then the GM.
I'll give it a day or so and see IF I receive a call from the SM.

Oh okay, I thought the service manager was involved with the dealer rep last week. I looked back and see it was the service advisor. My service director is great, I stop in to talk to him every time I'm at the dealership. He always seems to make sure I'm taken care of properly. The shop foreman there is great as well and like to talk to him or shoot him an email once and awhile. He has often taken my vehicles when there is something that needed to be figured out. The guy is a walking encyclopedia of SIBs, TIS and anything else BMW related. Anyways, good luck with the SM and let us know how it goes.

I received a notice that "updates are available" then asked me to switch to "Automatic Updates". I agreed and then it prompted me that the updates began. Reached destination then went about my business. Returned to vehicle started it and same thing. Drove for about an hour reached another destination and shut down. Never received any indication that updates completed and never prompted me again for updates... Nothing changed when looking at version of iDrive and apps. Anyone else have this situation or is that how it works?

nope, it doesn't just update without you initiating it. you can leave the vehicle after it starts, though. verify your i-Step version by checking in the settings; I'm sure it's the same

Sounds like it was a map or Apps and Services update.

Definitely wasn't maps related since you get a reboot and the version changes. Version stayed the same there as did the "Apps" version. Was not aware of any "services updates"... any idea what those may be?

It is one update for the Apps and Services. It usually done at night it seems and just notifies you if you need to redo the Privacy info. Was just throwing ideas out since what you described is not how an OTA iDrive update works. You only need to reboot navigation if you get an update while driving, any other time it will take care of it.

I've seen this before on my '21 X3 that I traded in for my 45e that's on order. It was for the Apps and Services to automatically update on their own instead of going into the Apps and Services menu and doing the whole check for updates.

Latest Software Update?

What is the latest remote software update being pushed out? I have 7/2021 version. Does anyone know if they stop updating software when your vehicle reaches a certain age? Mine is a 2019.

OTAs should be available as long as technically possible. They have not sent out one in quite a while but are supposed to start sending out 07/2022.xx shortly after the iD8 OTAs are finished.
