iDrive 7- G05X5

Hello All,

Interested in purchasing a G05 X5 but heard some horror stories about iDrive 7 and other electrical gremlins. Whats your personal experience. I am also looking at a 2020 Porsche Cayenne. Thanks

Welcome to the forum. Are you sure you are not reading old threads from when the G05 was introduced. In the beginning there were some bugs, I don't recall any horror stories, but those have been fixed years ago. I'm not aware of any electrical gremlins but maybe someone else can chime in.

I've had far more electrical issues with my Audi's (VAG ... same as Porsche) than BMW. At least with BMW, if there's a bug it gets fixed fairly quickly and done over the air versus a trip to the dealer. I have an open recall on both of my Audi's for a rear camera issue that needs a dealer visit that would certainly have been fixed OTA on BMW.

3-mos with the X5. No issues.

Nearly 3 years with a MY20 and zero issues.

curious to know what “horrific” issues you’ve heard…

MY21 45e, 16k miles, my iDrive 7 gremlins:

- randomly connects iPhone via iDrive instead of CarPlay (preferred) ~1% of the time

- slight misalignment of overhead camera view from factory (resolved)

- starts up in Hybrid drive mode instead of Electric ~1% of the time

- lane-keeping is a little too ping pong-y for my taste

… hardly what I’d call “horrific”
