With 4 months or more of freezing temps in much of the country, that's a lot of mornings and evenings of automatic cold start idles and the time spent in that condition can add up after several years. As we know, YMMV. My 2007 n54 has 145k Miles, and I've rarely let it sit at idle in below freezing temps - I prefer to get it moving right away as the Bmw engineers have directed us to do.
