Personally I have never seen an X5 towing anything on the public road. Wonder why?

both. It's not an engine issue, it's a structure issue.

In fact, the E70 in Europe was published with a higher tow rating the the US. The only difference was the provided hitch component

Maybe not in your area....but many of the E70 X5s I've seen in California has the factory or aftermarket hitch installed.

I personally know 2 X5 owners that tow (racecar, boat)

They should add a new menu in the I-Drive and make a built in trailer brake controler how hard could It be? Really looking foward for the review of this X5.

Interesting that it's the brake controller that helps amp up the tow rating & not the engine

X5 diesel towing a gts. This is with the factory hitch rated at 6000Lbs. Proper placement of the vehicle over the trailer axle yielded 600 lb tongue weight. The vehicle felt very capable with this configuration. Load leveling suspension would have been nice but it drove very well. The torque of the diesel is natural for towing, didn't even struggle up hills. Regarding the brake controller, I use the BMW factory brake controller for the E70. Works great with the F15, plug and play.

Ps. I think it is about time they offer a factory hitch that better matches the vehicle tow ratings. I believe the diesel F15 is rated at 7700 lbs with a 6000 lb available factory tow hitch. Makes no sense. And then they do not specify the brake controller from the E70 works with the F15. According to the dealer there is no available brake controller for the F15. You have to research and find out the E70 controller works and educate the dealer to sell you one, which it is on national back order also. It seems like with this newer G model bmw is finally recognizing this is a truck (towing, off road, all wheather tires with a 20 inch wheel option, etc).

X5d is rated at 7000 lbs and I have an invisihitch which is rated at 7000 pounds. I've got the adaptive M suspension with the air bags and mine tows like a dream. I coded my rear camera to zoom on the hitch. Towed a 3500 tandem trailer 340 miles. Drove 70-80mph and you wouldn't even know it was behind you. All while getting 17 miles per gallon.

Would love if BMW would adapt the stow-away hitch like VW has.

Americans wants a regular hitch that they can use to attach bike racks and the such.

Hopefully the BMW version for a hitch will not be a nice or like it has been on past models. invisihitch is what I have been using... And it works great. when not using it.. You don't see it.

I think all of us here are willing to give you one more try at that. Say again?
All right
I type better when not in a hurry:
Bottom line the new X5 is fatter and slower than the Range Rover
And instead of focusing on towing they should focus on style and nimble response in Style the current X5 is far more appealing than the the G05
A good example of style is the 4 series

The change they made to the X5 are going the wrong way I like the new X3! And probably will get that

Btw BMW is experiencing shortage of blind spot detectors and are forcing customers to take new US made cars without the blind spot setup

Which range rover? The rumours for X5M specs are for over 600 HP.

Towing is important for me, and needed to be improved considering that the tow rating on the X5 was the lowest of all the German brands. Apart from the grill the interior and exterior are great.

Nimble response in a 5000lb vehicle is an oxymoron. Get the DHP if you want better handling, but no matter how you put it, nimble response and 5000lbs don't go together.

If you option out a Range Rover maybe. I just looked at the Range Rover. Tough to find one under 95K and most on the lot were low 100s with a 6 cyl. $115K plus for a V8. That is some crazy money compared to the X5. Alex on Autos just reviewed the diesel Rover. Nice looking SUV but it is really hard to justify the price. Liked the RR Sport, but not enough leg room for my very tall body.

Heathrow airport National/Enterprise has a Range Rover RR diesel for rent if you are ever there give it a spin. It is a good looking car. I love the '15 X5 we have with third row and tech package but that Range speed and off road capabilities makes me rethink whether I upgrade to the Gopher-looks or stay more traditional

Just to clarify all X5s will be prewired for a 6,600 LB trailer but including the trailer hitch option for $550 increases the limit to 7200.
