Why would anyone buy this thing over the new Porsche Cayenne? This X5 looks terrible. You have to be a hardcore fanboy to pick this over a RR Velar or Porsche Cayenne...

Putting your BMW loyalty aside (I've owned 10 BMWs in 16 years and currently own a M2), you have to admit the redesigned 2019 Cayenne is MUCH better looking than this thing. The RR Velar is as well.

I 100% agree. That front looks like a shortened too angular squashed nose and the back is overly bloated. Super minivan vibes here.

Not so sure. The image in the banner of this page has the blue from the laser lights and the halo lights go up higher. Just hope the halflights are not a "feature"

Ive never owned a BMW and like the G05 over all its competition.
The Velar is small and overpriced. Just a dressed up F-Type.
I’ve never liked how any of the Cayenne’s looked since first released.
Looks like a frog to me.

I totally agree on the Porsche but if you spec a Cayenne S and a 50i, its a $20,000 difference.

I think its cool that he took the time to share these photos with a bunch of enthusiasts interested in this new model as it looks on the street. Thank you OP.
I’m guessing all the videos are “over processed” too?
You can’t see any of the lines on the black G05 in this thread. The video of the white G05 at the plant shows more detail.

Two reasons, $$$ and size

I'd love a Cayenne, but I just built a 2019 base model and equipped similarly to how I'd spec an X5 40 (M Sport, convenience package, Luxury seating package, Dynamic Handling package, premium package, HK stereo), the MSRP comes up to $96,600. That should be a good 20K higher than what the X5 is priced at. Plus, Porsche doesn't discount much, so it could be as much as a 25K difference overall. That is a big $$$ difference, at least to me. Though the Cayenne is damn nice, I'd have to strip the thing down so much to keep it under 80K (i.e. no PASM, no air suspension, no 4-wheel steering, no PDCC - pretty much all the things that make it drive really well) that it just wouldn't be worth it to me.

As for the Velar, that is a smaller vehicle than an X5, so not really a direct competitor. Closer to the new X3 in size. The Velar doesn't really drive that well either, at least for an enthusiast. The Jaguar F-Pace is pretty fun though, but the interior is really cheap (I had a rental 2018 3.5t for a week recently) and the tech/infotainment system is a joke. Rear visibility sucks out of it too (same issue with the Velar). The Velar fixes the interior, but it is just too heavy with all its unnecessary off-road hardware (seriously, what owner ever takes their Velar/RR Sport off road??? .1%???)

+1 on the Cayenne.. (and the Acura MDX as well) while I didn't completely hurl. seeing the 2019 .. I still threw up a little..

I haven't seen the VELAR... I do like the Jaguar F pace and also the E pace..

Can't say I'm crazy about the overall design.. but like most BMW's, when the M-variation is released I'll be turned over without a doubt!

Even with the new design, I take this over any Velar or Cayenne giving their prices.

Feel like I'll need to order the X5M just to have a BMW SUV with some flare...

You're correct that a stripped down Cayenne would be roughly in range with a X5. But I disagree all those items you mentioned removed really enhances the driving experience. This is a 4500 lb vehicle...It'll still drive like a SUV even with PASM etc.

If you want a good driving SUV, then buy a smaller SUV or go with the X5M, which I think is the best in the business.

IF this answer is yes, then this is what will get me to swing 100% over to the new X5 from the XC90 T8

I like it. The only thing although small that seems a touch off is the hood seems to be a little long with the profile but im sure in person it looks legit. Im excited for this x5!
