Thanks for posting! What's the max distance away from the vehicle you've been able to try the Remote Start on?

Will remote start also be possible using "BMW Connected" from your phone? That's the only one I'm interested in. Just doing it from the fob is nearly useless. That just means I can start it 6 seconds before I'm going to be there anyway.

Yes, you can start the car from your Connected app. It should also work using Samsung's SmartThings home automation. The G05 will interface with SmartThings if you have it (unfortunately not with Alexa yet...but maybe soon!)...so you will be able to ask the SmartThings hub to start your car or ask how many miles you have left of fuel, etc. Kinda cool!

Also, I learned that the car can run for a max of 20 minutes before it will shut itself off. But that is plenty of time to warm or cool the interior. It will be nice to be able to actually start and run the AC now instead of in previous models only being able to "ventilate" the car...which just attempted to push the hot air out and circulate the interior air (since the engine didn't actually starting running).

I belive this feature started with F1* from the 2017', using Connected drive. It's restricted to 20 or 30 minutes before it shuts down. It's another area the EV outshines the ICE.

Nice of BMW to join the 21st century on this one. Maybe even 20th for some 👀.

It is. But you have to call and then pay like both lungs and a kidney plus your first born to have it installed. I looked into it.

Correct.

I can also leave it running without killing anyone in the process.

Tried this out on my test drive over the weekend. It worked great! Finally! Didn't try any great distance or from inside. They did say it would be part of the connected drive offering, but wasn't sure if it would be available as soon as the first cars were delivered or shortly thereafter.

Save for the fact that leaving an unattended car running is illegal in 31 states and countless more municipalities, even in states that don't have a blanket prohibition.

Had it on my last Subaru. I believe the delay was due to the German rules on unattended vehicles.

There are sometimes legal issues with features like this.

I guess BMW feels it's no longer a potential law suit waiting to happen.

Curious how they get around the safety issues & legal issues involved w/ remote start? What's to keep the abundance of idiots or just a curious kid out there from remote starting in their garage and killing off the entire house? Perhaps just a simple disclaimer is all that's necessary?
