All new owners need to post more pics.

If you are having a hard time, just use the app to upload quickly .

That is all.

Thank you

40i in the House

Picked it up today. On Cloud 9. Scratch that. Cloud 10.

Illinois, opted for no front plate. And yes, those are the 20" 740M wheels with Pirelli Scorpion Zero All-Season RFTs.

Way early initial comments after only 30 miles of suburban and rush hour driving:

1. Ride in Comfort mode is sublime. Outstanding balance between feel and comfort. Perhaps it's the 20" wheels and comfortable sidewalls.

2. For better or worse, exhaust is barely noticeable.

3. First X5/BMW, so can't compare to earlier models. Size wise, feels as large as our Ford Explorer, but the drive difference is dramatic. Takes up a lot of lane width. This is a big vehicle, but it drives like a dream.

4. Given comments 1 and 3 especially, having a hard time rationalizing a true high-performance variant, i.e. a real M-car version (X5M). I would appreciate a V8 (sans oil pan metal shavings), but a anything much more just doesn't compute for me, coming from an AMG background.

Slowly drove home... with utmost care.
Those considering the beefed-up towing capacity option should look at this photo. There'd been lots of questions here about exactly what kind of hardware that option included, the aesthetics, impact on bumper, was it electrically operated, etc. Here's a great pic; credit ppnff .

ppnff , can you comment on any impact this has on the spare tire compartment under the cargo compartment floor? Was some concern it would impinge to the point having a space-saver spare was not possible.

Very observant of you! We had consecutively numbered plates, until I replaced the X3 with an M235i purchased out-of-state (plate couldn’t be transferred).

The way the white shows off the lines of the G05 so well it's almost like an added aesthetic mod. No other color shows off the lines like that. And I'm not being a white homer I have a carbon black on order.

Standard exhaust? Wondering how much louder will be 40i with M sport exhaust.

Did dealer advice you to drive slowly through first 2000-3000 miles?

Initial impressions ->

1. Steering in comfort mode is more numb than my prior 2016 X5 (xLine).
2. Suspension is a lot more comfortable without being bouncy - really nice job.
3. Raining around here with traffic so no real opportunity to change modes or open up the engine. Hopefully weather improves...
4. Harman Kardon radio is noticeably better - fuller sound with more warmth.
5. New touchscreen is highly-customizable - still getting use to it - lost my weather widget that I had previously customized on the main screen and still cannot figure out how to put it back onto the main screen. Not a fan - I am technology savvy and prefer simplicity. Navigation and weather are my two main uses - huge uncertainties in my life here -> traffic and frequent daily changes in weather...
6. Active safety feathers are a bit more intrusive - went back to settings to calm them down.
7. Seat belt fabric is cheaper than my prior X5 - thinner and not as nice.
8. Center console - feel the buttons are now too close together - literally adjacent to each other with no space and no real texture to them - just flush and pushing down to use.
9. Rear seat armrest - cheapen - cup holder is still problematic to use - very temperamental.
10. Engine is responsive - noticeably faster than my X5 with similar minimal exhaust noise. Not sure you need the acoustic glass.

The challenge for the current X5 is that the prior X5 was just a really well put together vehicle.

I have no regret upgrading -> in summary, the engine and suspension are amazing with the improvements on the Harman Kardon as a bonus.

There is information in the manual to not exceed 3500 rev. and 150 km/h while first 2000km.

Windows

Are you going to tint front windows to match the rear? Would look sweet.

Congrats on your new ride! I’ve an F15 now, and how did you get the Weather app to show on the “main screen”?

If my memory is correct, we added the weather app first and then on the settings added the app. Does not seem to work like that on the G05.

Note that your 2018 X5 will be different than the 2016 X5 - the 2018 has an upgrade on the interface - noticed when I had one as a loaner - very different and alot closer to the G05 than the 2016 X5.

Are there options in the menu to decrease the effects of the lane guidance? Ie make it softer?

I agree that such a black/white aesthetic would look sweet. The difference in the tinting between the windshield/front row and second row/back is most noticeable in that straight-on, straight-through sideview. It's less noticeable in most other viewing angles. If I lived in a much sunnier locale where there was more practicality to tinting the front, I might risk violating the law that (I believe) limits the tinting of glazing through which the driver looks.

In choosing MW, I considered that BMW chose it for the official launch photos in June. I believed then and do still, as you do, that either flavor of white does a great job of highlighting the beautiful lines. Not that other colors don't, just a personal preference. I too really like CB, the difficulty of keeping it clean notwithstanding.
