Day Two with New X5 -- Problems Already....

I've been having a number of issues with the new iDrive and all our iOS devices since getting the car, which I posted about in other threads.

On my ride home tonight in the rain, I got an "Automatic Lighting and Wiping System Malfunction" error.

Rainsensing wipers appeared to be working; automatic high beams did not.

So far, very frustrating. I've had more problems in 48 hours with this car than I had the entire time we owned our X3 prior X5, and in the last year with my 540. All were more or less free of problems.

Hoping these are just new model glitches that will soon pass.....

First year, especially early production models, tend to have a slew of problems that are resolved later. That's why a lot of people (including myself) avoid first year models.

I was going to do that, if timing had allowed us to order a 2018. The demise of the pull ahead program right when we would've been able to use it typically kiboshed that.

This car is beautiful and improved in many ways. But, I hope this is not the beginning of headaches....

Sorry for all the problems. BMW has really become stupid with all the new iDrive versions especially when they can never get one working perfectly. I really think the G05 needed more time in testing, wonder if the shorter replacement cycle was an issue.

Hope you new car improves.

Just took deliver on mine today and they had to do a software update. Check with your dealer to see if yours has been updated.

So far so good with ours except 1 issue. iDrive completely locked up for my wife yesterday. I was able to reboot the system by holding the volume button in for about 30 seconds. Fixed it.

It's a new platform with all new electronics. Any person knows a first year model always has glitches especially when it is first released.

Electric Steering Wheel Adjustment Not Working

My electric steering wheel adjuster is inoperative. Can't recall with certainty, but I believe it worked initially as I was preparing to depart the dealership. Will check to see if it's not a blown fuse.

I hope these problems get resolved and you are trouble-free from here.

I'm reading posts on this forum to decide what options to get and when to pull the trigger. All this input is valuable.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

It's all software so I wouldn't be too concerned about long lasting issues - you can fix software. I would be more concerned if it was more hardware or mechanical where a part may be faulty and would have to be revised.

Yes, I am confident it will get worked out too. Just frustrating given how trouble-free our other BMWs have been.

For what it is worth, that error message did not return last night.

Car looks and drives great. The heated armrests are pretty awesome, too, as was the remote start last night when we were coming home from dinner on a cold, rainy night.

The new iDrive is growing on me—will be great once the glitches are resolved.

Although we brave souls who ordered our X5 in the first year may be, it's not like we're coming out of pocket to get things right.

For those who lease these, it's even more of a non-issue.

Pioneers usually reap rewards. Better to stay ahead of the curve than always dragging ass.

I guess in the end (pun), only the leaders lead....

I think that might be standard procedure... they did that to mine yesterday, picked it up this morning... no problems to report. Love it.

I am grateful for those who buy in Year 1 and report back on the forum. We wouldn't have much to talk about otherwise.

In some twisted way, finding all the glitches is part of the fun. While the iPhone and iDrive seem to be at war with one another, the car drives great compared to my F15.

Tech aside, my biggest gripe is some of the materials feel kind of cheap-o. The doors on the center arm rest and glove box are just awful. My center arm rest actually flexes when you lean on it. Really lame.

Can you give more details. I am getting ready to order but this thread gets me worried they pushed ahead before things were ready.
