And AT&T blames BMW. Neither one knows what they are doing.

BMW NA called me back and they didn't place blame on AT&T specifically. They said they know it's not working and will let me know once they work through it with their partners at AT&T. They also said they cannot even tell me what the SIM is, which is what AT&T was asking me for. He said he added me to a list so I'll get notified once it's fixed. I'll still keep trying every so often though...

Will this WiFi work outside of US? Asia for example? Don't think I've heard my dealer mentioned anything like a SIM card. This probably also means that the OTA firmware updates won't be available too, plus many others I would imagine.

Hey everyone,

I was speaking to a BMW rep at the show yesterday and was assured the software is a major priority.

Then this morning I received a call from corporate that they have resolved the issues as of this morning with the hot spot and emailed me instructions to make sure the car get an app update then it should be able to be activated. I have his contact info should it not work.

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today. Per our discussion, please see the below steps to take with your vehicle.

- Start from the Home Menu and select "Apps".
- Select the vertical menu bar on the left edge of the screen.
- Select the "Options" button located near the iDrive controller.
- Select "Update Apps and Services" and wait for the data transfer to complete before pressing OK

Once this update is completed, please press and hold the volume knob on your dashboard for approximately 30-40 seconds to restart the iDrive system. You may now shut down the vehicle and attempt to sign up for Wi-Fi services at myvehicle.att.com.

I can't try it until I get home so if anyone can and report back that'd be awesome.

Nice work chasing this down and thank you for sharing progress. Fingers crossed this is another box checked in the "Things still not working" column.

That speed will depend on my local network. Won’t the speed vary for everyone and their location? I will check next time I am in vehicle.

Did you try to sign up in the vehicle using the WiFi hotspot and go to myvehicle.att.com? Only that site will open up from the vehicle.
I also found out my phone number changed after I signed up to ATT from what BMW said it was. When signing up from the vehicle, it doesn’t ask for my phone number at ATT.

If you have a strong ATT signal when you test it will indicate what we will see in general on the ATT network. I am hoping for at least 10MBS down for good quality streaming.

Tried it - but neither my phone or laptop would connect to myvehicle.att.com when on the WiFi Hotspot in the car. My house has terrible AT&T cell coverage so I'll try again in a different location.

No joy - even in a location where my phone says I have a strong cellular signal - as soon as I shut off cellular on the phone and use WiFi to connect to the car hotspot, I can't load the AT&T website at all..
