Wireless charging generates more heat due to reduced efficiency especially through thicker cases. I've used Qi (wireless) charging for years now since Android go it back in 2012. I prefer wireless over wired but it depends on what I'm doing.

They are wrong. My dealer parts dept could order key cards in mid December. Took my dealer 4 days. Mine has worked flawless since the key card update in early January.

Yeah. I thought I followed up to this. I went back in a couple weeks ago and they ordered me one. It came coded to my VIN and paired immediately. They would not give one for free though. Had to pay for it.

It is likely that I will be charged as well. It did not come with the 12/11/18 delivery. They ordered my card earlier this month in addition to another other key that came in but mine did not. They ordered again and it allegedly will be in this week or early next week.

My dealer is still feeding me the line that they are having problems ordering - specifically around coding to my VIN. And - they are charging me for it... Ordered 3 weeks ago. Good times.

I am getting the feeling a lot of issues on the forum are not car related but rather dealer related. How can one tiny dealer in central Pa know how to do this. My 50i was the second new X5 sold so they are not a high volume dealer with 30 G05 X5’s sold so far and they managed it.
Perhaps it is a lack of dealers making a genuine effort for customer service?.

Dang... I was the first person at my dealership to request it. They called BMW to enter the part into their system, find out the procedure to order, and order it for my VIN after I produced a bill of sale (CA printed it for me). I think I was there for 30 mins sipping coffee while they figured it out. I had the card in 2 days in an envelope with my VIN on it.

They are VIN specific, and must be coded by BMW to your vehicle before the card can be delivered to a customer. And I understand that it isn't a perfect process yet, still very new technology.

I'll let everyone know how my service visit goes to reset that system and get the card working next week.

I got a text from dealer IT guy saying 10K digital key cards are having issues and mine is among them. Originally scheduled for delivery today, there is no promise of when the key will appear.

Anyone have a car that was a 11/2018 production that didn't come with a key card that had a successful purchase of a key card?

My dealership just found out that my car even though it was delivered 12/15/2018, the production was a November 2018 run. Therefore the reason it didn't come with a card. They're putting the order for the card through now. There is some documentation that said that some cars' key card readers weren't activated in the 11/2018 run.

Just curious about any of you that also got a card ordered after the fact.

I'll pass on this. Don't see how this is any better than using the Fob. I have too much technology to add another gadget.

Try going swimming with the fob in your pocket. I programmed mine but don't know when I would actually use it. Just tested it out to make sure it works. I don't have any keys on my fob so don't mind giving it to a valet, service, etc., if I did I may just give the key card.

Mine was 11/2018 as well, picked up the keycard yesterday...works like a charm...he did mention to me that there is a possibility it might not work so not sure what that's about...might be what you're referring to as the card reader not activates

It needs to be set up. My dealer didn't do it so I did. After it was set up then I also associated it with my profile.

This should be how to activate it.

If I recall correctly it showed up in there. My phone (S9+) didn't unlock the car via NFC either. I'll see to spend more time with the car and see if something isn't enabled. I appreciate the post

My key card works great but no phone has yet to be programmed. I understand there is a programming issue between BMW and Samsung. I have tried to program my Note 8 and a program error comes up. You need a working key card (which I have) sitting in the tray, then set the phone on top of the key card and activate programming via iDrive.
