I doubt my phone is compatible as it is a OnePlus, nice phone, but not widely used in the US. Thanks for the info.

Correct, it was an 850 but she said it works in vehicles with iDrive 7.

There's only like one phone right now that will work as the key. If you have any other phone than that particular model , this is the next best thing, and very convenient.
Right. The digital key card is the physical alternative to using the key on the phone which most of us. Ant do yet. Once Digital Key standard version 2 from CCC is out we expect apple to adopt that standard and allow it on their phones.

Funny that BMW has Carplay but no Android Auto and yet the digital key works on Android phones but not iPhones? What am I missing?

Anyone have any luck pairing your connected drive profile with the digital key card?

Yes - I enabled it following the instructions in the manual. Walked away from the vehicle so the comfort access locked it. Put my fob down and went back with just the keycard. Used it to access and start the vehicle. The seat went back to neutral, etc. I then logged into my iDrive profile and was prompted to associate the profile with the Key Card.

Funny. Just as you were posting this I tried the same steps. Works great. All seems right with the world now.

Oh, it also folded in the mirrors when I touched the handle to lock the car just like it would when I walk away with the fob.

Went to my nearby dealership and gave the part number I found on these forums. He entered it and came back with a different part number. He asked for the last 7 of my VIN but was baffled on how to order the card. I am waiting for a call back while he figures it out. This was at Beverly Hills BMW.

I told him: 61 35 9 436 659
His computer is saying it is: 61 35 8 714 330

Weird. My invoice has the part number you told him.

I did not see the prompt to associate my profile with the digital key card. Did this pop-up or you went through the menu to do this?

When I sat down, it showed my spouse's profile -not the guest profile - and I changed it to my profile. I thought this was curious since it was activated under my profile.

I also could not get the door to unlock until I removed the card from inside the thin Vaja case of my iPX.

My Otterbox Vue (it's clear thin plastic) case allows me to unlock the doors, but the NFC receptor in the car doesn't see the card, so I can't start the car with the card in the case. I'll be shopping for a new phone case.

I have a very thin case and this was also still a problem. Works fine in my wallet. The nfc chip on the phone I think causes an issue, but I am not 100% sure.

I tried the card with the phone on top (no case) and the car started with no problem. So, at least in my situation, it appears to be the case.

Use these instructions.

OK, so the BH BMW parts dept. told me to call 1-888-575-5397. The person over there asked me a bunch of credit check questions and for my VIN and car color and then placed an order for a "Plastic wallet key" for $55.50. It will be shipped to my local dealership in 2 days. The person who helped me could not tell me the part number so I am not 100% sure that I am getting the correct part. The price sounds right though. Arrives on Saturday.

Why would you want to use this? My key is a key fob and just stays in your pocket. As you approach and leave the car, it detects it and locks/unlocks as you come and go. And you can leave it in your pocket and not have to place it anywhere, unlike having to get the card down in the charging area..

I'm well aware seeing how I've had my X5 for over a month now. having the digital key on my phone would be useful for when I go to the gym instead of carrying my physical key or key card

OMG soooo HOT! Thanks for posting
Hi,

I got a key card recently and it works ok. just put the card where the wireless charger is and it will be programmed. Will not replace keyless as that is better with no need to place a device or card at the door handle. For all of you thinking of digital keys etc BMW seem to only support Samsung outside of the car and iPhones inside.
