No, that is not what I'm thinking. Your dealer is likely just sitting there hoping they can get an allocation. BMW does not accept orders without one from my understanding.

BMW gives out allocations to the dealers on a regular (I think monthly) basis. They can also trade allocations with other dealers. For example, if they need to order a vehicle type that they don't have an allocation for they can trade one of their other allocations to another dealer for their allocation.

You will see many posts on here that have quotes similar to "If you don't get a production number you don't have a vehicle ordered". That is because anytime a vehicle is ordered with BMW a production number is supplied.

That is just salesmen talk in my opinion. Of course they are limited, all dealers are limited to a certain number of allocations. It is just a case of them wanting to sell you a vehicle so they will tell you anything to keep you on the hook and not going to the dealer in the next town to order since they have an allocation.

Agreed. I also was told that allocations were limited, but I know they used one of their slots for my car. I got my production number the next day. That has been the case on all 5 BMW’s that I have ever ordered, so I would ask your dealer.
