Nets in trunk

What are those side nets in trunk? Is it part of the cargo management package?

Can we get them at parts department and installed by BMW?

I think that's just the cover. Mine has that cover but no net. Can't believe they didn't throw those nets in for free.

I can't find it on any parts website because if it's reasonable I'd buy one to see

I think the reason you might not be able to find it based on the previous link above because the info to look up the diagram didn't have the luggage compartment pkg (option code S418A) because when I clicked on the link...panel #4 was grayed out (meaning that what ever VIN was used to look up the diagram didn't come with that option.

When I did a generic search for the same diagram...item #4 was listed...which also listed the multiple colors and options for item #10. Click the following link to see what I mean...scroll down to #10 and select the one that matches your interior color..AND...also has "YES" in the supplemental column that asks if you have option S418A...also take note that you may need item #4, too for #10 to fit correctly.

Once you have the correct 11 digit BMW part number...you can simply type BMW xx xx x xxx xxx (where x=the actual BMW part nbrs) into a google search box to find vendors that are selling that part. Or you can call your local BMW dealership's Parts Dept and give them the part number and have them look it up for cost and/or ordering.

Call your nearest BMW dealership's parts department...give them the correct 11 digit BMW part nbr you need and inquire how much it costs...and how long would it take to arrive if ordered? They will be able to tell if the item is available state-side...or if its back-ordered due to this model being new.

I would if my dealer was even tolerable to speak with. I appreciate the sarcastic reply and statement of common knowledge.

I don't think he meant to be sarcastic, but even if he was, and your dealer is worthless, find another dealer. There are several that deal with online/phone parts sales, are knowledgeable, and offer discount pricing. I've dealt with Gault BMW in upstate NY for a number of year, and they've been very helpful getting parts for my 20+ year old 8 series cars. If they can ferret those out, they should be able to find just about anything. ScoreBMW.com provides a useful online interface and discount pricing. Finally, Schmeidmann.com is a euro retailer that will get euro only parts (as well as US parts) and ship to the USA. Often (but not always) they have the lowest prices as well. However, you have to factor in both shipping costs and the bump for credit card usage.

Has anyone purchased and installed these? If so, what is the part # and, I'm assuming, there's a left and right, and cost?. Did you install them yourselves or was it necessary to have the dealer install them?

If you click on the link I gave in post #7...you will see that there are 14 selections for item #10...which is based on what color you need, left and/or right, and how your BMW is optioned.

In regards to cost...you will need to inquire with your local (or nationally advertising) BMW dealership's PARTS Dept...or try a google search using a simple search phrase like "BMW xx xx x xxx xxx" (where x=the actual 11 digit BMW part number).

Regarding install...if you open your tailgate and you can easily remove the panel that the net is installed into...then replacement should be a simple reverse install.

Forgive my ignorance, but the only colors for part #4 I am seeing are "Mokka", "ANTHRAZIT" and for part #10 I see "black" "SCHWARZ" and "mokka".

I'm assuming if we DON'T have Leather Vernasca Canberra beige which seems to correlate with "Mokka," then we select "Anthrazit" for part #4 and "black" for part #10?

If it helps, I have CB exterior and Coffee merino interior.

Has anybody successfully ordered and installed these parts and nets yet?

Thanks so much!

DYI project to make a perfect OEM Side Netting for G05

So, I had my frustration by buying a G05 M50D and not having a single place to store bottles or else in the boot. My car was second hand, so it did not come with storage luggage option (expensive), nor I wanted to venture in buying the side panel with netting (P/N 51475A0B5A6) because it costs £133 and dealer could not confirm that such panel would actually come with the net.

So, here is how I manage to build the identical replica with BMW parts for 20£ and 1.5 hours of work.

1) I bought the "storage Net Luggage Compartment" (PN 51477435855) for a BMW 2 Series F45, which is the metal frame and the net, for £15 in ebay (or 25£ from dealer) as well as the "inclusion of luggage network" (PN 51477330724) for £2.19: these are the plastic supports to fix the base of the metal frame to the base of the panel

2) I remove the netting from the metal frame
3) The metal frame is approx 3 cm longer than the car side panel, so it needs to be adjusted. To do so, I have straightened one side of the metal frame, by heating and putting into a vice. Then I have calculated the exact lenght of the base of the metal frame and moulded the straightened side of the frame exactly as the side which I left intact. You need to use a blow torch to heat the frame, as it is a relatively stiff 5mm iron wire and would not bend easily unless heated up. This requires a bit of ability and a good pair of gloves to avoid burning yourself, but nothing too difficult
4) Once i adjusted the panel properly, I sanded it from the burnt black paint and resprayed it with black metal paint, so that it looks original.
5) I drilled 2 holes of 10mm each in the base of the panel to accomodate the 2 plastic supports. Do not make them too narrow, otherwise the support will not screw in, or too wide otherwise the support might move and disloge from the base. The holes shall be 7-8 mm from the border of the panel (since the panel profile is rounded in the back and you need to counterscrew the fixing on the flat side of the panel
6) I then placed the metal frame on the supports and calculated exactly where to drill 5 mm holes in the side panel for the upper extremities of the metal frame.
7) I had then reinstalled the net and voila' ... all done. Pls notice that the net become a bit longer than necessary to fit the 2 U shaped original positions, but you could shorten it by cutting and restiching the upper elastic band. In my case, i did not and kept it original, since it fits higher up close to the metal frame extremities and contains better heavy water bottles etc
8) I also have taken the opportunity to create a mini handle on the top of the panel, so that I can remove it whenever I want and have access to the huge space behind and below the panel, which BMW decided not to use (my previous F15 used all that space with a proper panel and storage compartment0. Be careful to storage everything here with proper wrapping, to avoid that anything might damage the fuse box). For the handle, I have made 2 * 1cm cuts one cm apart and used them to pass through a velcro strap, which has become the handle.

Shame on BMW for selling a 100K car without proper storage, but happy to have it resolved easily and without spending a lot.
Enjoy the project !

Does anyone know if buying the left and right flap is just as simple as replacing the existing ones? I know its expensive but those nets there would be very useful for me

I've tried ordering the left and right panels with the nets. They are unavailable.

-Rear Cover P/N 51-47-7-479-782
This part number was taken from an X5 with the luggage compartment package.
Part was ordered and it still didn't have the storage net.

The second option is for the X3 but indicates that it fits the G05 X5
-Storage Net Storage Comp.Lug 51409947 P/N 51-47-9-471-112
There were no instructions included for installation

If you were able to order the side panels with nets, they are over $100 each. There is no part number for the nets only.

If you're a bit handy, so can solve it this way:
