X5 - 2.0

Since I purchased my 2019 X5 on December 14, 2018, I think I was able to drive it a total of 2 weeks. A rock chip sent me to the dealer for a windshield replacement. Upon pickup I was getting a Lane Departure error message so back to the dealer who diagnosed it as a bad KAFAS camera. Placed the order and was told it could be weeks or months since it is coming from Germany. It arrived early so I had an appointment scheduled for a Monday. Then on the Friday before I was hit from behind at a stop light. Drop it off at the body shop who had it for 5 weeks. Then back to the dealer for the KAFAS camera install. They tried 2 different cameras but still the error message appeared.

I met with the dealer today and BMW has approved a replacement vehicle. It was ordered today but will not arrive for 3 weeks. Then it will need to be sent out for the 3M clear shield and window tint. I may have it by mid April. In the mean time I have to swap out my X5 loaners so I don't up too many miles on any one car.

I ordered the exact same car but did ask for a tow hitch to be added.

did they reimburse you for the 3M clear shield and window tint?

I'm about to drop $2.5K on mine and it will suck to lose that out of pocket cost! on top of going through all that hassle!

Yes. I produced the receipt and they are including it too.

Who is making you switch out the loaners? That seems odd.

Good luck! Sounds like it has been a frustrating road for you.

out of curiosity, if you were hit from behind, which apparently caused sig damage, why would the dealer feel a replacement vehicle is in order? wouldn't that be on you or your ins carrier. I know Lib Mut adverts about new vehicle replacement but why here?

Because 2 attempts to replace the KAFAS camera to fix the Lane Departure error has not worked. They have no idea what the problem is. The KAFAS camera is located behind the rear view mirror. The accident was just to highlight that I have not been able to drive my car for weeks. Besides, the damage was to the bumper and the lower lift gate which is on the opposite side of the vehicle. They checked and double checked all wiring there too just in case. However, the error message happened before the accident so I don't think they are related. I'm not holding BMW responsible for the accident. The Lane Departure error message pops up every few minutes which requires you to turn it off in order to see any information on the iDrive. Additional it is part of the safety equipment of the vehicle. If they could fix my car I would be fine.
