Remote start UK

I know some are picking up/awaiting delivery, but does anyone know when we can expect to see the remote start this die of the pond?

Apparently a software patch was released on Thursday in Canada which will now enable our remote start function over here. I'd call your dealer and see if its avail for the UK now as well.

Does the remote option work with Diesels ? from what I could see the Canadian option was for petrol versions.

The bulletin in Canada and North America is for all vehicles. There's no disease-al version here

Hopefully you can get it in the UK for use on your "private driveway" (since it's illegal to leave a car idling without a driver in UK anywhere public). It's such a handy feature.

In our case here in Canada, until now they did not offer factory installed remote starters on any models AFAIK. With the G05, there was finally a factory installed one and BMWUSA offered it since day 1, but for some weird reason BMW Canada hesitated with the decision (why would we need such a feature when it hits -40 ). They eventually decided to add it to a couple of packages for 500$ and retrofitted the option for people that bought their car before it was available, and this for free.

Basically your local BMW branch has to decide that it is allowed. There may be legislative reasons that can explain why it is not offered, or it may be a choice made by your local division.

As mentioned above, I would think UK legislation would not allow remote start on UK spec cars, so I wouldn't bank on expecting to see it at all.....

All the cars built before March have remote start in Canada.

It would appear from the Candian owners, this is a software issue. Hopefully it can be implemented throigh Bimmercode or Carly once they roll out for the go5.

the only issue then will be the connected app and if it is tied to a region, in which case it may be necessary to fool it by downloading a US or CA version or faking your location on install or afterwards (sorry iphone users, android rules here)

my only fear is that it will also be vin locked, in which case we, outside the Nth American continent, are screwed... but given bmw's software implementation to date, i doubt this will be the case.

Will be surprised if this is correct, interested to know what your dealer says.

It would be great if it were true but I'd be surprised!

So dealership was useless, didn't know many answers, think I put them to shame.

The answer is no for remote start but if anyone can lean on anyone at bmw UK that might have influence.

Not getting much from the live chat on the website.

Also on another note, do we think there is potential for the remote parking feature to come to the G05?

So just spoke to "genius" (use the term loosely). They have had advised that the remote start is now available, with the digital key.

Anyone have this? Can you confirm, perhaps speak to webchat and see what they say.

Very interesting. I’d be very pleased if this is the case as it’s one of the main reasons I’m holding off committing and looking at the RRS and XC90.

It’s especially important now we can’t have the Aux heater in the UK. All the main X5 rivals have aux heating including Porsche!

Also I don’t buy the talk about the law preventing it. I can do what I like on my private property and they already sell a car which can significantly exceed the ‘law’ at the owners discretion whenever the owner feels like speeding!

Do you mean available with the App? Only has "ventilate now" still. Watching this thread with interest.

My old Range Rover Sport has this, was amazing being able to pre-heat it pre-cool the car. I struggle to see why BMW haven’t rolled this out.

Thread revived again, as far as I am aware still not available in UK, on the app there is an option for ventilation timer where you can set departure time. You then send it to the car and it tells you it has been sent, as far as I am aware this does absolutely nothing as the ventilation needs the engine running to work!.

it may not apply but I also have an MY20 540i, and I can confirm ventilation occurs without the ICE turning on, but note it's just the fan and not temperature controlled which does require the ICE running to power the HVAC, but if you do a test and run ventilation via app or iDrive while sitting in the vehicle, you'll find that air does indeed flow.
