Unhappy Missing the SH-AWD

I am kinda missing the SH-AWD in the corners, coming from a 2015 MDX. The MDX infotainment system and camera etc, felt so out of date compared to the X5, but the feeling of SH-AWD torque vectoring in the corners made the big ass MDX feel so nimble. I wish the 40i was offered with sport differential. Anyone else regretting not getting sports differential ?

I am missing torque vectoring since my E71 X6... It completely changes the way the car feels and drives but you know that now. E71 is quite dated to today's specs but I still remember the way it drove and can say that today's ride without torque vectoring is the opposite

We also traded from a MDX. I haven't spent much time behind the wheel yet to regret not getting the sport diff. but the G05 is superior in several other ways. Although I will say SH-AWD is a truly outstanding system.

Yup. I will take torque vectoring over all wheel steering any day.

I agree the X5 is definitely superior. I do not miss the cheap leftover Honda materials, the bootleg rear view camera and the dated infotainment graphics.

Dif is available as part of DHP pack on 50 or as part of off road pack on 40 and 50.

There are too many options on those cars. Based on how aggressive you drive and if you need any limit handling and cornering - you can go to many levels.

First you decide steel springs or air.

If springs - you decide regular or M suspension.
If M suspension - you decide to go with DHP pack or not (50 only)

On Air suspension - you can go air alone
Air suspension with active steering - 4 wheel steering
Off road pack with Limited slip Dif and more height options etc.

M Sport diff even on the 50i doesn't really add much of a benefit unless you turn traction control off. At least this is how it seems to me driving it hard daily

Edit: traction control is pretty annoying because it kicks in earlier than I'd like. My X3 M40i would have the back end out 15deg before it would pull me back, this was easier to predict and never caused an issue If traction control was less aggressive the sport diff would be a lot better. I need more miles to properly get a feel for it still

+1 on missing SH-AWD with torque vectoring and so much fun in the snow. The MDX inspired crazy confidence in inclement weather. Had 2 Sport Advanced with the magnetorheological suspension - miss them, great vehicle for value.

But my X5s have offered so much more.

I could be wrong but I thought 40i off road package only came with integeral active steering not sport diff?

I assumed the rear wheel drive bias with sport diff made X5 50i much more fun to drive in the corners than MDX. If you really power on through corners you can really feel the SH-AWD working otherwise it’s a typical front wheel drive suv.

the X5 50i with DHP like mine is a blast to drive but honestly my X3 M40i was sportier as it should be. I threw that thing around like a sports coupe ie I treated it like a high price hooker sometimes, otherwise I drove it as designed, fast, hard and sideways

The off-road package has an electronic Differential but it might differ from the M Sport Diff

Agreed on the SH-AWD. The X5 is for sure far more advanced than my 2014 MDX but there are a few things that Acura did better.

Clearly you're never drive a 50i + DHP or the X3 M40i with sport diff both handle superbly and way better than an Acura I've tried

It's the confidence in foul weather traction that SH-AWD excelled at. Don't think the OP was comparing the handling.

MDX's handled decently when equipped with magneto suspension.

There's no denying that the BMWs handle better.

Yeah we get that the 50i + DHP is outstanding. Sport diff. does nothing for handling - all about maintaining traction for acceleration.

Uh hello. Both I and the OP drive the 40i so I'm pretty sure that's what we're talking about. So, no we're not comparing the 50i with the more advanced DHP as a $3,650 add-on to the SH-AWD which is standard.

during inclement weather I've never had an issue and because the X5 still uses brake based torque vectoring if I recall correctly. X Drive on its own has gotten very good over the years and is on par with it's rivals, tires are the most important thing for proper handling.

the only true benefit found in the DHP is active body control, everything else can be had with other packages including the differential.
