Production status
Not sure what the timing is for production is, but I've been stuck in "Production begins" for the past 2 weeks. Spoke to a BMW genius rep and was told that its scheduled for finish date of 3/26. In less than 4 days away, it seem unlikely. Is this normal?

Mine was in production begins for quite a while as well. It had a completion date of 3/16, so a week or so before yours (I assume you mean 3/26 not 2/26). If it is like mine, it will change a day or two before to the next step. Then mine jumped several steps and was ready for transport by the following Tuesday. I'm taking delivery tomorrow.

Production takes about 24 hours once it starts so this sounds normal.

"Production Begins" means they're gathering all the parts for your specific build and getting them ready to put in the line... that way when your car actually enters the line everything is ready to go.
It usually sits in production begins for a week or a week and a half (with or course some exceptions being less, some being more) before moving. Then suddenly it will move -- from body shop, paint shop, assembly, and finally production complete (status 155). This entire part of the process takes 24 -36 hours. They run the factory 24-hours a day so often it will jump two or three steps overnight. Here's a good guide for tracking production: https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=894728 Last edited by adgriffi; 03-22-2019 at 12:04 PM.. |

Longest wait for me will be end of production date (3/18) to pickup at the Performance Center (4/26). The days are dragging. I ordered on 3/5.

Mine went through 5100 body shop start and painting to 5300 pre assembly on Sunday 24th February, 5400 to 5500 assembly on Monday 25th February ( takes just over an hour) and was at 9000 Departed Plant early on the 26th February. I didn't catch all the steps as it moved forward so quickly

Mine was originally scheduled for week 10, then got pushed to week 12, then back to week 10, then back to week 12 (not kidding). It went thorough initial production and was in Quality Check as of early this past Monday morning. It's still sitting in Quality Check as of this afternoon. My CA is trying to get an update, but noting yet.

Once my car left production begins, it went from Exterior body assembly begins to Awaiting carrier assignment in just over a day. My guess is that you'll see it zip through the process on Monday.
