Phone Mount

Anyone running a good phone mount? I want to stay away from anything with the vent as the vents appear to be very fragile as one of the vent pieces that pivots just broke shortly after I picked up my F95. I have been researching and given the angles and shape of our dash and center console there are not many options aside from sticking something to the leather dash that I am reluctant to doing as well.

Cup holder ones on my f85 worked perfectly. But then again....you lose one Starbucks spot.

Check out the products from iOttie. Decent price, sturdy, and overall high quality product.

I used to have one in my F10, don't really need one now but I remember it being dependable and very versatile.

I use a proclip. It does attach to the vent surround not the grill slats. Keeps my phone in perfect view. I then have a short 6" usb c connector I plug into the powered usb socket and the wire is short it doesn't get in the way.

FYI, proclip also offers a mount that goes on the passenger side of the center console. I just ordered it but can’t post pics since it’s on back order. This was my preference as the vent mount does look like it covers some buttons and definitely covers a good deal of the passenger center vent. However, I do like the positioning for access - personal choice.

Just make sure you order the 2 separate components - one is the mount and the other is the phone cradle which attaches to the mount.

I ordered the version where the cord permanently sits in a hole in the bottom of the cradle so I can just pop my phone on and off vs having to manually plug it in with the cable every time. Since my phone over heats with Waze and wireless charging, I pretty much have it plugged in all of the time anyway and this makes it more convenient.

Also. As recommended above. Get a very short cord (need to see if what I have is short/long enough once I get the mount.

Hope that helps a bit.

Buttons are still accessible. They are slightly blocked from the drivers perspective, but you can still see them and use them. The buttons are only for the passenger side and if you are the passenger the buttons are fine and easy to see and use. One of the benefits is in the summer when the air conditioning is on it keeps my phone cool.

I drop mine in a cup holder - or on the wireless charging pad just above the cup holders. I thought this wireless charging pad was default on all G05's??

That’s nice to know. I thought it would block more of the buttons so I opted for the center console mount.

Mine is still on back order so maybe I’ll switch over.

May I impose on you to take a pic or two of the passenger side so I can see if it would pass the wife test?

Thanks!

I have the charging pad on the left side (no cup heater/cooler where it sits in the middle).

A few problems with the wireless setup for me :
1. Have to unlock the phone at times to connect. Once it’s on the wireless charger, I have to pull it out and unlock and then drop it back in.

2. Wireless charging with the processing needs of some mapping apps (especially Waze) heats the phone up and it shuts down until it cools off. Super annoying. I know that’s not BMW’s fault but it’s a real problem I’ve been dealing with. The phone shuts down for about 10 mins while I’m using the GPS - no bueno.

3. Every so often at a red light (not driving!) I may want to see my notifications that don’t show on CarPlay. Can’t do that quickly using the wireless charging pad due to how hard it is to get the phone out, especially with drinks in the drink holder.

4. The afterthought of just turning the same charging pad sideways may have made sense to BMW from a cost perspective but it’s a fail from a user experience point of view. It is very difficult to see if my phone is charging on the changing pad because they turned it so the blue charging light is practically unavailable in the drivers line of sight. I have to lean over to almost the passenger’s side of the car to verify that the blue light is on/phone is charging. It’s not safe when driving and inconvenient when stopped.

So the implementation is ok but not great in my opinion. Your mileage may certainly vary but the wireless charging just doesn’t work for me the way it’s set up in the X5 so have to go old school.

Cheers!

Does ProClip make a console for the F95? I own both a F95 and G07 and can confirm that the console between the two are different. I suspect the G05 is the same as the G07 but the F95 has raised edges on the center console that would most likely not allow the console mount for G05/G07 to work.

It clips to a vent, and I also had concerns about durability. This is my first car in a long time missing a disc slot, to which I prefer a phone mount that inserts into the CD slot.

Mine has been on for about three months without any worries. Amazon sells this for $15-20. Order one, and if you're not happy, send it back for a refund.

Hey Ed, what brand is that one?
I had something similar in mine and when I pulled it out, it broke the AC vent.

This one:

https://www.amazon.com/Magnetic-Air-...079333&sr=8-10

It has a clamp which tightens with a threaded collar behind the face. For removal, simply loosen the collar behind. IMO, it does little or no damage to the vent. The clamping force very good, but not excellent IMO.

This mount dropped down to $13.50, excluding a $2.00 coupon.

No need for anyone else to touch the controls in your ride

Tell that to my girlfriend (constant temp adjustments, sunroof closed, volume, map, Setup button to go back to Comfort, home screen to see weather and news, etc.)

My sons are obsessed with changing the seat every two minutes. And the screen changes every time they approach the adjustment buttons.
