I respect what Genesis has accomplished and I think the cars are excellent. A friend of mine bought a g70 a year ago and loves it. Have ridden in it a bunch of times and prefer the interior and ride quality to any 3 series or Audi A4/S4. But I just can't warm up to the styling of any of them. For an amusing (but complimentary) take on Genesis check out Jason Camissa's video:

No offense to anyone. But when it comes to comparing BMW to Genesis, I just cannot help thinking of these two.

I looked at it before I bought my X5. The Genesis is a pooch I think it's a poser in the luxury space. Here is a performance test between X5 and Genesis. It was not even a close contest. I immediately placed my order for an X5

I definitely cross shopped Genesis, along with Benz & Audi. I think they've done a great job, and it's not surprising since so many executives & designers come from European luxury companies like BMW.

The one thing that was a deal breaker for me was that they don't have the BMW/Mercedes ordering infrastructure. It's in strict tiers like Japanese cars, Standard, Advanced, or Prestige. You may not want to pay for things on the Prestige tier like 22" wheels or Active Noise control but want a digital dash, not possible. To get digital dash you need to get the prestige. And at $75k MSRP before dealer markups, it's not really a bargain over German competitors.

I agree. I got my 2022 in April with no markup, when genesis was asking $10k which was defeating the whole purpose of a bargain luxury.

Besides, the dealership experience is quite different. Genesis was like -you need a vehicle, you need us, we don't need you-

The dealership experience is a huge difference. We've had Korean cars in the past and the dealerships are just sub par. I've been to discount tires with much nicer facilities. The attitude was poor, not much of a luxury experience considering what someone else pointed out is a minimal cost savings. Until they lean into the dealership component they'll always lag the Germans and Americans.

My experience:
Lexus/BMW - the best dealerships
Toyota - very good
Ford - decent
Chevy - less than decent
Acura - decent
Honda - excellent
Subaru - less than decent to excellent

My local Walmart is actually nicer than my local Genesis (really Hyundai) dealer.

Genesis is supposed to start getting their own Dealerships/Lots soon anyways. They are well aware of the "Hyundai Dealership" experience, which is why they pretty much give you the concierge service for the first few years so you don't have to deal with them, they will come and get them.

This is an intuitive guide for those who don’t understand cars when cross shopping German and Korean brands.

Simply put, every brand has its own culture, which is the DNA of the company, also carries their ethnicity characteristics. I personally like German’s physical characteristics such as being genuine, creative, and well-organized.

I am certainly no fan of the flower boy trend of South Korean. The same goes with cars. It might be subjective. But that’s me.

Dude, free advice worth what you pay for it. That said, why oh why would you ever speculate on what a woman is thinking?

No upside; tremendous downside.

Unfortunately they have been saying that for years, we have seen a couple open so at least there is a little progress. Many dealers will not give concierge service so that can't be relied on.

The nearest Genesis dealer to me is over an hour drive and into metro DC traffic. If they don't offer concierge service I am not a buyer at this time. I do plan to check out their vehicles at the PA Auto Show in Harrisburg next month along with everyone else's offerings for 2023. I'm in the market for a replacement for my X5 but right now do not know of anything that I am coveting.

Buyer beware. This may be finally fixed, but Kia, Hyundai and Genesis, have a bad history with inferior oil burning engines. Two people where I work didn’t know this and are suffering trying to get replacement engines for their late model cars. Our CS manager is burning a quart every 100 miles in her 2018 Kia Optima!

I'm in no way second guessing my 45e purchase but don't the 3 companies you mentioned have a stellar powertrain warranty (10 years) which should in theory take care of engine issues.

Most of the posts in this thread is "fanboyism" 101. Gone are the days that Hyundai / Kia were making cheap cars. I have no affiliation with them but they deserve credit for the progress they have made over the last couple of decades. Just look at the 2023 Azera.
