You have to go into software and click the "check for update" button. Its not an auto-notify type scenario(as I thought it was like Windows Updates) as I recently learned. As TurtleBoy also said, based on whatever features and packages were in your car you might not have an update and I will.

You will lose coding for any ECU that is updated so I just make it part of the process to recode everything each update.

if you have any vehicle issues, it doesn’t hurt to bring them up with your SA. at my 3-year maintenance visit, I showed the following photo which occurred only once. they couldn’t replicate it (though I honestly don’t think they even tried), but BMWNA authorized a software update. they installed 11/2023.xx. I was previously running 03/2023.50 (OTA)

Speaking of updates, on my drive home the 03/2023.67 update loaded to my car. Its ready to update. I am not sure if it will say it during the update process or not, but couple questions.

-- Does the car have to be on during this? either running or in aux/diag mode?
-- Can the doors be opened or closed during the process so I dont have to stay in it while it updates?

TIA

It will not be offered for install until you turn off the engine and the other requirements are met. Once it starts then you can leave the vehicle.

Just keep in mind that many people with non-LCI vehicles are not able to install the updates as the installation option is not offered. Sometimes this is due to a low battery but more often than not the reason is unknown and nothing can be done about it.

Basically, I am asking if I can fire off the update when I get to work tomorrow at 6:45a, exit the vehicle, lock it, and go into the office or not. If I need to stay in the car for various reasons it would be greatly appreciated to know that now or if I need to do this on my day off.

It also kind of sounds like that even though I have successfully uploaded the update to my car....that it might not let me install for some far fetched reason. Kind of concerning.

LCI - Life Cycle Impulse. It is BMWspeak for a refresh. The LCI for the G05 X5 was MY24.

Like I said, you do not need to stay in the car after you start the update, it takes about 20 minutes. There is no way to "fire off the update", you can only start it when it is offered to you.

There definitely is a chance you will not be able to install it, that is just the way it works, or doesn't work I guess. I take the position that I will never be able to install and update and if I'm able to then it is a bonus. I haven't been able to for years on my X5. For as good as BMW is at creating a driving experience that is how bad they are at software installs. That seems to be changed though with iD8/8.5.

Question, just got myself a late 2020 x6 40d, still on version 07/2020.54
called into stealers, and they have quoted £129.00 meh i rellay think it should be free but its not a big amount.

so the actual question what would be the noticible differences between my version and the latest ID7 update ?

i dont get any update options avail in the car or the app.

there’s been 11 major updates since your version, so it’s a bit difficult to summarize all the added features and bug fixes. IMO there are some improvements worth noting, but only you can decide if updating is worth it. that said, if you notice any electronic gremlins or vehicle performance issues, sometimes a software update is authorized to address them.

the following link provides release notes for some of the most recent versions:

No you are not, I remember at least one member posting that.

I didn't realize there was a change. Wasn't remembering the last state always available? The button should at least work.

Are we taking the same thing. If I go into comfort mode as example, turn off ASS.
Turn off car. Let's say for discussion sake, I make it default to Comfort. Last State is ASS off. From a cold start, ASS will be on

aka, in Bimmercode, with ASS set to be off.

Yes, we are talking about the same thing. I didn't realize there was a change to remembering the last state. I thought it was only to disabling ASS.

Last state - ASS has never worked for me but I never paid attention to how it behaved in prior as I have always had ASS turned off. Since the March Update, ASS is on a cold start, even though the last state was Off.

Hence, I was looking for the brief reply that was posted for clarity on the statement but I cannot find that reply no more

I assume you mean you coded ASS off, did you code the last state also? the March update may have taken away the ability to code the last state and people haven't complained since the button still works.
