I’m shocked, and devastated. He was my favorite player, and I’m a Knicks fan. I can’t fathom what everyone on that helicopter was going through, as it went down. I’m sure his daughter was in his arms. Every time I watch coverage of this horrific accident, it brings tears to my eyes. May you RIP. My heart goes out to all those who lost a love one. God Bless...

such a smart guy; analyzed the game so well. loved listening to him speak
Really true what your saying. We want or we don't want, but we all will stand before God one day, and we will answer for all what we did. All this money, fame, and everything else is all useless. Because when we will stand in front of God, all our life will open up and we will see what we could have done but we didn't.
This is a really good example to sit and think about our life, because we don't know what will happen tomorrow or even this night. Life is really short, and we should make the right decision, and live this short life for God.
Sorry with my writing, English is my 3rd language.

Sad loss of a great talent, fierce competitor, hard worker and someone who touched a generation of people on and off the court. Glad to have been able to watch him play, compete, change the game and win all those years. As a Lakers fan, glad he was a single franchise player and they let him close out his career in dignity at the team he elevated all those years. Tragic he was with his daughter, but comforted that he was probably there for her in their final moments. Heart goes out to the other coaches, players and loved ones on the flight with them.

RIP #8/#24 and all onboard

Roma_335i, I share the same sentiment. I’m a person of faith, and do my best on this journey. We are all just passing through, and one day we will have to answer. Society, I feel lost the true sense of the most precious gift. And that is “ LIFE.” We find ourselves wasting precious time, on technology, gadgets, and social media. Let’s disconnect from all those distractions, and embrace our loved ones. Tell them, and show them how much you love them. Spend more time with friends and family, and less time on cell phones. Time to engage at the dinner table. Again, life is short, and you don’t know when your time is up.

Let’s not forget there is verifiable evidence he wasn’t a great husband and a possibility he may have been a very bad person.

It does suck for the family, but that goes with any death, including the others that died in that helicopter. It’s sad he’s the only one talked about.
One day Andrew Yang (Democrat President candidate) is lamenting his conflict of an obgyn admiring his wife’s vagina and a few days later he’s mourning a black guy who (https://www.thedailybeast.com/kobe-b...alf-confession) lord knows how vulgar humiliated a white woman.

I don't use social media (facebook, twitter, etc) or whatever is cool these days, so I just wanted to take a second to remember/honor Kobe Bryant.

It's just so surreal...growing up, he had just always felt so invincible to me, so hearing of this tragedy was just beyond shocking.

Anyway, I'll just keep it to that.

These are my thoughts. It's sad that someone has died in such a tragic way and that the people who have looked up to him have lost him.

However, it worries me that society can idolize someone simply for being a good athlete, instead of for their virtues.

Kobe raped a 19yr old girl, then him and his legal team went after her to ruin her in court and ruin her reputation, all to protect Kobe's reputation so him and his endorsements can profit. Eventually the case was dropped and settled outside of the court. With Kobe saying "Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did. After months of reviewing discovery, listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter." Like, there was blood everywhere all over both of their clothes and her reporting to have been in pain and telling him to stop...

During this act, he has also cheated on his wife and broke his marriage vows. Which completely disgusts me that someone can have so much disregard to do something that easily breaks up and destroys their family. His wife has stated that there's at least 100 people he's cheated on her with. Yet Kobe spoke often about being a devout catholic.

Now, maybe he's apologized privately for these things. (he certainly hasn't done so publicly) Had a breakthrough, vowed to change, and really stuck to it. I don't know. No one does.

But that's just my point. People are mourning the loss of a basketball player, someone who is good at catching and throwing balls and weaving between people, not idolizing him because they know he was a good person.

I'll respect your wish for not wanting to talk about it. But as far as respecting the dead as a default, I think there's a huge problem in doing that. Sorry you have lost a role model of yours.

RIP

He worked hard on the court, and worked hard for others off the court. My son is a baseball player and spent time at the Mamba center.

My generation would yell "jordan" while tossing something in the bin but I hope kids will continue yelling "kobe" while doing the same.

Kobe is my all time favorite, he's a huge reason why I started watching basketball. It hits hard, and the fact that his daughter was with him, along with another family and other kids involved just saddens me. I woke up this morning hoping it was just a dream...

The article you linked is an interesting read, something that seems folks are maybe too willing to forget.

apparently the chopper pilot was given special clearance to fly through fog. local sheriff choppers were grounded that morning because of weather and rescue choppers also grounded due to thick fog. makes you wonder whether his celebrity got that clearance

The sheriff choppers need visibility to do there patrols so no point in flying but they can do instrumented flying in fog. Not sure about the rescue choppers if they flew in after the fog or how quickly they were on site after the accident was called in.
