postitvie vs negative rep points

alot of boards have reputation points awarded to members who are knowledgeable or just in general pleasant people and negative points to trouble makers, spam, etc...

it might make listening to certain people more manageable.

Unfortunately, I will read an idiot's post as soon as I would read one from a guru. More entertaining, that's for sure!

The real value of reputation points is in the classified section, where folks are buying, selling, trading (BST). This is where the plus/ minus concept is a good thing!

I'm not a fan of rep points systems on BBSs, since I've seen them turn otherwise decent forums into cliques; basically a highschool popularity contest. If you stick around a forum for more than a few weeks, you learn who the contributors are.

The only place I've seen them work is on places like slickdeals.net.

yeah, in all seriousness rep points are completely pointless on a car discussion forum. I don't take anything anyone says at face value without some research of my own regardless of the number of green bars they have on any topic. Not to mention it encourages flaming and arguments.

And it encourages every post to end with
