May sound like a n00b question, but are the factory OEM rims ceramic coated? Was looking into doing it myself with both sets.

Very nice. Didn't realize we could put 275 on those 10.5" rear rims

Have the uk / france / alps / italy season - so mixed bag rain/slush/snow + ice

Looks amazing. I'm in the midst of either a building a 40i xdrive or M50i, and will stick with 20" wheels. First thing I want to do is get rid of the RF's and put on the General Grabber 275 AT's, which seems compatible with the factory wheels, even with M sport brakes.

Did you have any issues with your stock set up (brakes/wheels) and fitment with your AT Nittos?

I got the 808M wheels now for my winter setup with 295/35/21 (Michelin Alpin 5, NRF) all around. They stand out considerably in the front (+31) compared to the rear (+48) where I use a space (15mm).

It seems like everyone that gets the Michelin Alpin 5 NRF has the single line down the middle of the tread while mine (Porsche spec) has two lines down the middle of the tread. Did I make a mistake getting the N0 Porsche spec?

Maybe just a difference in model year? What is the production year on yours?

I'll have to check tomorrow but I just picked it up from Tire Rack. Here's the photo from their site. Seems the Porsche spec has two lines and the regular one has one. Hopefully it's ok that I got the Porsche spec. BMW dealership mounted the tires and didn't object at all.

I was told these only come in all black. Do you have the P/N for this set?

Its a replica I got on ebay but its not offered as of now. I could forward you the contact in China though. I wasn't sure at first but the quality is very good and the guy seems to be reliable. Shipping took approx. 4-5 weeks.

I have this set from my f15 x5 and am putting them on my G05, they work great and I think this version has sportier characteristics.

There is limited choice of winters tires in 21, i believe pirelli scrotto zero is the one available easily in the us and you end up with 275/40/21 as tire size choice.

Going to 20" gives you access to michelin x ice, bridgestone blizzaks, and yoko iceguards. So way more choices in addition to raising the sidewall to 45 as added benefit. Try getting a square setup as you will be able to rotate tires, and it also helps the under steer feeling.
I have been debating on my mind 20” vs 21’s for winter tires - and the dealer offered an interesting perspective…

BMW is suggesting drivers opt for the same exact rims as their standard/summer ones, because “we picked the look for a reason”…initially this sounded silly to me - but there’s another benefit, as they told me - now I’ll have extra, identical rims so if I damage any of them, I can still have a full set that is flawless.

I really like my 21” 741M’s so leaning towards just buying the same for winter setup.

But I’m also reading the wider rears could create a “plowing” effect if I ever ride them on the snow.

I’m in the DC Metro area - it snows a couple of inches unless it’s a real storm, where I wouldn’t drive - should I be worried about driving on 21’s in the winter?

What I don't understand about that logic is that once you make the decision to run two sets, you wouldn't just accept busting up a rim and replacing it with one of your extras because now you've gotta replace that extra anyway to keep two sets going. And you're not just going to abandon four good tires and three good rims.

I can't really agree with your dealer on that recommendation.

I recommend going a smaller size or two and increasing the sidewalk for sure. Narrower tire gives better Performace in the snow. Additionally I would recommend a square winter setup and not staggered like the summer in order to rotate corner from one year to another and get more life out of the set.

Good luck

My winter rims are 734 19inch with Michelin Pilot Alpin 5. I have MY22 MSport and can confirm these fit perfectly. These were installed by the BMW dealership

Finally get to use the winter setup on my X5. Staggered 20s with Michelin Alpin PA 5, handles amazing in fine deep wet snow!

Hi Alix, reaching out regarding the winter wheels you have mentioned above. I'm considering the same set. Do you have any photos of your car with that wheels? I have 22 inch rims and had 22 inch winters on them last year but now I'm thinking about separate set - ideally run flats to get some peace of mind on my winter trip. 22 winters doesn't have BMW homologation and if they got damaged it is very hard to source spare tyre. With 20's it is much easier. Many thanks.

The same size of the tire on staggered wheels? Or your front & rear alloys are the same too?
