2020 X5 xDrive 40i no power

Hey,

I have had the 2020 X5 for 35 months and its been fantastic. As of the last two weeks its been complaining about battery conditioning. I was planning on bringing it for annual service, etc this Thursday because thats the nearest time my local dealer had a loaner. Naturally, I go to start the car tonight and it wont start. I am also still deciding whether or not I should buy the vehicle when my lease ends.

Has anyone else ever experienced this? The tow truck is coming in the morning to pick up the car and take it to the dealership. Is there any other long term issues I should worry about?

Thanks,
Steven

The G05 is a power hungry beast; it has a huge array of electronics, so I pop my car (2021 40i) on a Battery Charger every 2-3 months for half a day or so.

I also have an App called BimmerLink (which is related but different to Bimmer Code), and its capable of reading the Battery and telling you the % charge. I find that after 2-3 months without extrernal charging my battery gets down to 60-68%. Seems to me the internal charging/alternator is not capable of keeping the batteries charged up without external charging - so what has happened to you doesn't surprise me.

After charging, it does get close to 100%, and I notice the car operates and responds really well, including no delays to ID7 software upgrades once its downloaded.

If you do get a charger, get a 10A+ unit capable of charging AGM batteries.

It uses Brake Energy Regeneration so it is not constantly charging. The alternator is on a clutch and it only engages when the vehicle is coasting or braking. The exception to that is if the battery falls below a certain percentage, 60% I believe, and then it will engage and charge all of the time until it reaches 80% or so.

Depending on your use pattern, the X5 may not keep your battery charged as well as it would be best. So, the use of a battery maintainer can significantly extend the life of the battery. My first BMW went from one year to 7 when I started to use a battery maintainer.
