Just got finished with 15 hrs of road trip in the new X5, and despite the glitches, I love it!
The assisted driving mode is fantastic for long road trips. One day was extremely windy, and the car made all the little corrections for me to keep between the lines. And while I mostly relied on Google Maps on CarPlay (which overheated my iPhone once every 2 hours or so), I tried the BMW nav system and found it to be quite good too. Most of my annoyances are likely software related, so they really don't bother me that much because I'm assuming they'll be worked out. |

Aside from the software glitches, I absolutely love my new car. It drives like a dream. It's at the dealer right now because I am getting the wheels powder coated black.
I really realized just how much I love the X5 once I got in the brand new loaner X3. |

I just got a brand new loaner '19 540i after dropping my X5 off for software updates. Not even comparable in any way... Feels like I've stepped back in time... I can't wait to get my X5 back.

SO many Smiles per Gallon, I really enjoy driving it. The V8 is an absolute beast (a thirsty one, for sure) and the handling surprises me every day as I gain confidence in the vehicle and its abilities.

The dealer can powder coat them black? How much does it run?

Sorry for all who have had delays and problems. It must be frustrating. On the positive side for me is the car itself. Reading reviews and new owners comment about how awesome the G05 turned out is inspiring.
The look of the car is stunning to me, inside and out. I've very happy with the color combo (Phytonic Blue with Extended Ivory Merino), especially now that some owners have posted real photos of that combination. To hear the G05 40i is actually faster and gets better mileage is encouraging but I'm not counting on that one. Probably the most positive thing is the fact that F15 owners who have taken delivery have such positive comments about the G05. Often, the new model on BMW forums get trashed by the owners of the outgoing version; E90 trashing F30, E39 trashing E60, etc. I am not seeing posts of current F15 owners making an abundance of negative comments. If fact, it’s quite the opposite. It seems like BMW has a winner here. Sure, bugs need to get worked out, but we should keep in mind its brand new. Those things shouldn't happen but they do. It’s unfortunate there have been delays. For those affected, it must be excruciating. I take the view that these manufacturing processes are complex and this model is new there are probably more delays than if the model had been in production for a while. This doesn't add up to an excuse, but $h*t does happen. The fact that BMW is giving some owners the run around is unacceptable, but they have a history of not being very forthcoming about anything. For me, the G05 is worth the wait. The positives are very good and, in a few months, I will have forgotten about the bugs and the delays. What I'll be left with is the fact that the G05 is damn nice car. |

Agree with all the comments... ride is unbelievable, smooth, powerful, yet tight and firm at the same time... well balanced. Interior blows away my wife's GLS... refined luxury but still sporty. Despite the gremlins, love the displays and overall electronics package...lots of options and customization to meet different needs. Lots of room but not too large.
Best indication is the fact that my wife would not ever drive in my 550i (which is a super nice car btw). She wants to take the x5 everywhere now. Finally, I put in an order on an Audi etron before I bought this. Although I want to go electric in a bad way, I may just postpone that decision a few years. |
