Alignment and balance

So, driving back from Atlanta yesterday going pretty fast in five lane traffic I was going around a curve and all of a sudden there was a big piece of something, a rail or ladder or something like that, lying in the road and I had no choice but to run over it since I had vehicles on either side of me and couldn’t swerve. Fairly big thump going over it. I was concerned I had tire damage but that didn’t happen, still have full air pressure and no visible damage on the tires on that side.

But later on, I started feeling, I think, a little bit of vibration in both the steering wheel and my seat. My question to any experts out there is is it likely something happened to the alignment to cause that? I always though vibration was a balance issue, but I wouldn’t seem likely to me that any weights got knocked off. And i’m not positive this isn’t my imagination, could have just been road issues.

Any thoughts?

Could be a wheel issue, Belt damage in the tire, alignment. I'd start with the wheel and tire first.

With the run flats I would look for any sign of a slight bulge in the sidewall of the tires that indicate a belt has been damaged, it is also possible a wheel was slightly bent - generally alignment will cause steering feel differences but a vibration is probably wheel or tire damage as a vibration won't come from alignment issues but from something rotating that is no longer balanced.

If there is no visible damage, don't tell the dealer you hit something! I believe alignments are covered under warranty for the first 7500 miles. Or at least that is what I remember be told awhile ago.
