I recently leased a 2019 X5 and completely ignored upgrading the sound system by accident. I want to upgrade all speakers and add a sub. Has anyone upgraded their X5 with aftermarket parts? I'm going to a certified installation shop, but worried it may mess up the electronics since its a brand new model. Should a certified shop be able to easily upgrade speaker with amp and sub?

Bavsound has been popular with the F15 crowd for speaker upgrades but I don't think they have anything for the G05. Maybe it's the same. You can give them a try.

I contacted Bavsound and they should be releasing a Stage 1 for the G05 in September-October 2019. Hopefully, they'll also release an amp at that time.

If you add it to your lease car you will likely have to turn the car in with the speakers, no?

Replacing the amp is relatively easy and you can remove it before you return the car. Speakers are a lot of work though.

I have had both the HiFi and HK systems in the G05 and yes the HK is waaaay better than the HiFi. I am not sure how close the amp upgrade alone will get you to the HK system.

I am looking at doing a similar thing for my 2018 540i. It came with HiFi and it is OK, but swapping the amp is easy and will cost $1000.00 so I may just do it. I am keeping that car long term.

There currently isn't a plug and play amp to upgrade the G05's HiFi system. It's a funky setup.

I just upgraded my tweeters today for my X5 with hifi
The tweeters in the doors are very easy to remove
Same as the G01 X3
And they are the same exact tweeter as the center speaker on X3/X5
I emailed bavsound if they would only sell the tweeters and center speaker or not

My biggest issues with the hifi system are the volume and tweeters
Most oem tweeters suck, irrespective of which system you get
That’s why I only upgraded the tweeters
Made a significant difference in sound quality
Much clearer
I used to have the treble on plus 5 or 6
After replacing the tweeters in the doors I took it to plus 2
After replacing the center speaker tweeter it’s back to midpoint
Sounds very good now , just wish it had more volume

I replaced the amp in my 540i with the Bavsound amp and ended up changing back to the factory amp. The 540i hi fi stereo is actually decent, way better than the hifi audio in the X5. The Bavsound just made the sound bassier. It was unbalanced. My ears felt like they were clogged all the time so I changed back to the factory amp. It is a bummer when you dont check that HK audio box. I know the feeling for sure. I assumed all X5s had radar cruise control, wrong.
