Why would you think it would cost that much? An aftermarket EDC suspension would be around 3-4k (though tbh I haven't looked for a g05) You'd get to still take advantage of all the fancy drive mode stuff and have a shorter shock with a spring rate to match. Granted expecting a $1k mod to ride as well isn't realistic. $15-20K is insane for suspension work. You can buy truly amazing race suspensions under $10k.

Considering no one has done it yet that I have seen I would imagine it would be pretty expensive to do something that would provide a net positive result. Was just throwing a number out there as it seems to be an unknown. Never have looked into it and really don't care.

There is your answer, the stock suspension is VERY good.

But what would be the reason to lower it? Looks or performance?

If for looks and you are willing to sacrifice comfort and practicality, go ahead, it's your car, it will look sporty.

If for a very marginal performance improovement and you are willing to sacrifice comfort and pacticality on top of tire wear because this beast is big and heavy for fast cornering, would you not rather get a car better suited for that? I mean, I have a big heavy, Audi S6 V8 TT, tuned to 630 HP and even that does feel SO much more able to take fast corners than the X5 M60i, but then again it is not as practicall and comfortable. A lighter, sportier car certainly does corners much better than both.

A lot of people expect lowered cars to ride the same as stock, but they won't. Coil overs are the worst because most people don't know how to correctly set them up or specify the right spring rates and such.

I say go for it if you're used to lowered cars, it will look great.
Exactly. I would say 99% of the people with coil over don’t know why they need coil over, not to mention adjusting the corner properly.

It depend on the definition of performance. The most cost effective way to improve on road handling is simple a sway bar update. They instantly and noticeably improve cornering, for a couple of hundreds, and without much impact on comfort.

People go with springs and dampers without touch sway bars or wheel/tires, are wasting money tho.

As to lower, I personally don’t see why I would do it for x5. Lower height means height spring rate and new damper for proper height. This impact ride quality. First get a set of sway bars.

Yes, that is my big question. Why would someone want to lower a 2 1/2 ton AWD vehicle?

Appearance. Kinda like masturbating: 98% will admit they do, the other two percent are lying. Same thing with lowering one of these, 98% will say appearance, the other 2% are lying.

Although I would allow for .01 percent who really do want to improve performance. You gotta love those guys, cred to the real deal. The rest, appearance.
