Lowering springs cause any rattles or creaking??

Had H&R springs installed on my 2023 M50i a couple of weeks ago. I had a small creak/rattle prior to install somewhere on the passenger side door/rear door area. Now I have a loud creaking sound coming from the rear passenger side door when driving over bumps or up the gutter ramp into driveway. Almost what you would think would happen of you had flexing in the unibody.

The increase in spring rate should be almost marginal over the stock springs - the increased spring stiffness should be about what you would see in the difference from comfort to sport prior to the H&R springs being installed.

Curious if anyone has had any creaks or rattles occur after lower springs install that you didn't have before?

Thanks for any replies.

I had my 24 X5 lowered with H&R springs a few weeks ago. At the same time, I had my installer swap my 20" wheels for 22" 742M rims/tires along with Future Classic spacers (12mm/15mm).

I have noticed a slight vibration noise behind driver and passenger seats (near the seatbelt pilars) at certain speeds/bumps. I have a feeling this wasn't from the springs but rather from the slightly harsher ride of the 22" wheels which made the vibration/rattle a bit more pronounced. I speculate that it might be the rear seat latches as it seems to go away when someone is sitting in the rear seats or the seats are layed down. It seems to have lessoned over the past few weeks as well to the point where I don't hear it anymore or very rarely.

My second guess would be that it is the rear door window shade mechanisms, but I have nothing other than speculation to go on.

Overall, I'm very happy with the springs and 22"s as it gives the X5 a firmer/sportier ride and seems to handle better on the curves (less body roll).

Hope that helps.

Mine has the 742M wheels from the factory. But the noise is pretty noticeable. There was always a very slight rattle, very slight, coming from the location near the seatbelt pillars like you describe. But this noise from the door is pretty pronounced.

I'm planning to give it a few more weeks to see if things "settle". Then take it into the dealership to get looked at. But preparing myself for the pushback from the dealer about the springs, and having to go full Mechanical Engineer on them and give a lesson on spring rates and spring/damper design!!! LOL
