Any former F15 30d owners that switched to G05?

Hey guys,

I'm searching former F15 30d owners that have switched to the new G05 30d

Mostly because I'm confused about the behavior of the new engine or gearbox, the G05 has a few more horses (6 I think) but an extra 60Nm of torque which is a big number.

My former F15 was much faster "taking off" from a stand still against the G05, on my G05 I feel a turbo lag that was almost impossible to feel on my former F15

Could it be a gearbox related issue? maybe different gear differential ratios longer that was was on my F15?

It will be great to get in touch with other users to see if they feel the same, once the car has taken off, the story is the opposite, you can feel the extra torque for sure on open roads.

Any expert advice will be also appreciated

I went from a 2015 F15 X5 30d to a 2019 G05 X5 30d, and I agree with your statements.

The G05 is just a lot more refined I think, especially in Comfort and Adaptive modes. Very smooth off the mark, but not in a way that "sling-shots" you off the mark - its more a gradual and smooth acceleration.
However in Sports and Sports Plus mode, I do find you get that neck snapping throw back, and acceleration is quite rapid, the transmission lets you rev up the full range.

Its definitely faster than the F15, and what I have found is overall the car is a lot more refined and quiet - so maybe it doesn't "feel" faster - but it definitely is.

Also, I think the Diesel engine in the 30d is tuned way to conservatively. It easily has the potential to be tuned to 220kW+, which would improve its 0-100kph to below 6 seconds, but BMW do it on purpose so as not to diminish the "value" of the 50D which does the same sprint to 100km in around 5.2s. That also means the 50D could probably do under 5 seconds if tuned a little further too. BMW just want to justify the extra $30k for the additional 3 turbos in the 50D.

I think BMW could save itself on the multiple-variations/models and just use 2 x turbos in the 3litre Diesel, and tune it to match the power output of the petrol 40i. Call it the 40d, and do away with the 30D all-together (and the 25d!).
This way they can create a line-up equivalent to the petrol variants: a 40d with around 250kW equivalent to the 40i, and the 50D with 320kW equivalent to the 50i. QED.

I agree with you, there are a few factors that maybe will translate in thinking the car is slower, the gearbox is more refined as you said and also maybe the suspension which is a great improvement is not sending you the same feedback
The 30d its the base of the 35d too, great engine and very reliable, here in Costa Rica that's the one and the biggest Diesel engine we get due to our low quality diesel
Maybe the way to go is to use it more on Sport mode, mine does not come with support plus, I can code it but not sure it will do any difference if it was not factory coded....
Another gadget is the XLR from RaceChip, it improves the mapping of the gas pedal in 7 settings, but I'm afraid of voiding my warranty

I looked at the TDI tuning box from the U.K: tdi-tuning.com
This one is removable, but you need around 20-30 minutes to do the job properly, there's some good youtube videos on it.

The only reason I didn't get it was EXACTLY your reasoning, I dont want to void my warranty.

One of the other guys on here in the UK installed one of these, and got the 0-100kph down to 5.7s, so they definitely work - but I cant be bothered installing and then removing every time before I take my car in for servicing at the dealer. If the dealer see's it installed, my Warranty would be gone...

I went from F15 30d to G05, but this time it's M50d.

Thus, no complaints about speed and acceleration here

I had a F16 30d and now drive G05 30d. The G05 drives smoother but has a little less exploding power but I think's it's overall faster that a stock F15/F16 30d. But maybe it's just the smoothness of the G05

My F16 was chiptuned, and all previous BMW's, it went from 258HP to 310HP and from 560NM to 650NM. Never had any engine problems and warranty problems. The engine is tuned conservatively from factory and tuning is well within limitations of the engine.
The G05 is a loaner for the moment but when I have the 45e I will let it chiptune again. Figures are 394HP to 500HP and 600NM to 800NM.

May I know what brand of chip you had?

I don't know a brand. There are several professional chiptuners in my country. They remap the ECU, so no box is installed.
They put the car on a dynometer, some engineer with a laptop is custom remapping the ECU and the car is put again on the dynometer.
