I keep seeing the crystal shift knob in pics of actual models that have been found. Is everybody ordering this?

I can see that some people would like it, but it's not for me. Too glitzy in person.

Is it ONLY cosmetic or does it have some other function over the standard controllers?

Yep! And you can see the “Extended” leather part i mentioned in another thread. How more of the center console is covered in leather.

4KT Anthracite-Brown Matte Wood Trim

Today, I went to see my 40i. This has been an obsession since August, and to finally see it in the flesh, was a borderline emotional event. Will go back on 11/2 to take delivery.

I will share other observations in other thread(s). But here, I will contribute that I LOVE LOVE LOVE the 4KT wood trim

I achieved precisely what I wanted with black leather Vernasca (and leather dash/door trim), paired with 4KT trim: "sophisticated authenticity."

Personal preference, but I just find that the fineline high-gloss wood finishes look like plastic/fake. I'm NOT dissing other peoples' preference, just explaining my rationale.

This photo is of the door, in direct sunlight.

p.s. I can not imagine not having the leather dash option. The detail on the door tops is beautiful.

Looks awesome! I too think that wood choice is great with the black leather!

More pics of the rest of the car please!! We get to see our 40i on Saturday!

I chose the same interior. Would you mind posting any additional pics? I'd love to see how the center console and leather dash came out.

Thank you and congratulations. The trim and black leather look great together.

I held back including this pic in my original post, since I was unhappy with the blue-ish cast/tint caused by the light coming primarily through the tinted windshield. I was unable to remove the tint in my photo application. Top right corner got hit with a little natural sunlight, and you can see a slightly truer color of the trim at that corner.

Yet another example of how hard it can be to accurately reflect some things in photos, without studio lighting, post-production editing, etc.

I'd base any decision on whether to choose this option or not, color wise, on the original pix I posted.

Hope this helps.

I saw an X5 today with the matte trim and plastic dash, will upload shortly. Also a bad photo of the Fine Line trim. The original shot here looked a bit pinkish to me, but seeing it the flesh it is definitely a gray matte with brown accents, looks really good if you like a matte finish.

Also the plastic dash looks fine to me but it its a big swath of plastic, albeit soft touch. I don't have an X5 right now so can't tell if its worse or better but seems about as good as plastic can get. It wouldn't deter me from having it but glad I changed to Leather if that helps (probably not). That said the plastic is also on the top of the doors too so the leather will definitely add some luxury beyond the dash.

Here are 2 of the brown poplar trim. It was cloudy out so not sure how the sun impacts it but this is pretty true to my eyeballs. The Fine Line was definitely darker than I expected. Both cars were Xline with no leather dash.

Perhaps it's just me, but I'm having a hard time seeing how that orange-ish leather looks good with 4KT. Pardon I'm not conversant in the palette of tan BMW leathers, other than Tartufo... which I think would likely pair well with 4KT. Fineline is a reddish brown, that would pair better with that shade of tan leather. Of course, all IMO.

I think most things work, wouldn't be my choice either, but it works ok in person. This was Cognac, which actually looks about right on the website (more muted) but always seems more orange in photo's. Still think this trim works better with Black or a darker tan.

Concur with your assessment that 4KT works better with black or a darker tan. I think it works with Tartufo, since I think Tartufo is a light black-brown, versus a red-brown.
