Break it in!
Thanks i plan to take it easy. Just wasn’t something I was told or was aware of the importance of until the feedback of the group.
When you get it back just break in for 1k miles or so. Break in philosophies vary, but just don't drive too hard. Vary speeds. Keep under 5500-6000 revs, never over 4500-5k if not full oil warm. And full oil warm is tricky. Water heats up much faster than oil given the thermostat, so give her a few minutes after warm water. That is way M models only have oil temp gauge. And M model computers won't allow launch control until all oils are warm.

Maybe change the oil at 1k as a sacrifice to the Munich Gods for past indiscretions. . Should be okay.

Thank you for your constructive feedback and detailed information, since the feedback of the group I have now read everything I could find about the break in process.

Regarding the cerium grey, I have the same trim, color Phytonic Blue. I find the various
trim all matches fine. One warning, wait until you see the brake dust you get with these wheels combined with the M Sport brakes. They are a unusual texture, not really smooth. They hold the clouds of brake dust like a magnet.

Yeah see your grill looks like cerium grey but my grill looks almost gold and way different than the remaining cerium pieces. I dont have the car to take a photo but IND did confirm they can get me all the trim pieces in black if I want to go that route. If i switch to the black trim, I'd also switch the wheels to the two tone 742M wheels. IND quoted me 1400 for the trim, I imagine the wheels are probably at least $3000. So I may just drive it as it is for now and see how I feel about it in a few months.

*Edit- By the way did you do a ceramic coat?

You can get the all black out trims from www.getbmwparts.com since its all factory items.

https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...bC12OC1nYXM%3D

https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...bC12OC1nYXM%3D

the trim by the fog light - didn't see it listed in gloss black but the price should be the same. I would just call to get the black ones.

https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...bC12OC1nYXM%3D

https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...bC12OC1nYXM%3D

comes out to about $850 before shipping.

The mirror covers you can just have shop wrap with black vinyl or have it painted or go with a carbon fiber option.

But Yeah my first concern was the guy who has the car after me... the car is
completely fine mechanically but stay up on your high horse, Wouldn’t want to infect you with my stupidity.

It does seem like posters are piling on a bit here. I see you are a new member. This is a forum full of really knowledgeable, really passionate, car enthusiasts. I suggest you hang around and get to know the group and let them get to know you. The G05 is an awesome vehicle and this forum is an excellent place to share your experiences, ask questions, answer questions, and gain knowledge.

While I wouldn't launch a new engine, even lightly, its your car. Just understand that when you share a post where you talk about launching twice in a brand new car on a car enthusiasts forum, you are going to get comments. That's just the way it is.

Here's hoping they fix your computer problem and you are back on the road soon. All the best.

While waiting for my X6 M50i to be built I watched lots of YouTube review videos and almost all of the reviewers were thrilled to do launch control on their brand new test vehicles and remember thinking that's probably not a good for the vehicle at any time, much less while still new.

My MO is to drive a vehicle for at least 5 years and 100,000 miles so I will most likely never do a launch control but once I got past 1500 miles I do floor it every week and get it up to 110 mph's for a few moments on the nice straight-away near my residence. And I actually think my X6 likes it.

of course she likes it... these cars were made to run. If you deny them of that they slowly die on the inside. I'm sure every second of that 110mph jaunt your X6 was thinking "thank you! thank you! thank you!"

I wouldn't hesitate to use the feature. I launch my F86 a couple times per month. It's designed for it. It will also disable if too cold, or too hot (I am told). Have done 3 repeat launches and zero issue. It's a blast. Great sound and semi-violent, but fun when you have space to go through three gears flat out.

I don't think our G05 40 has launch control. Might have to check on that.

I had PPF done & did my own ceramic coating. BTW I saw the 747M wheels are around $4000 for a set of 4. I would leave the wheels. they are gorgeous, just need low dust brake pads, I'm looking into that now.

Just to close this out... BMW ended up replacing the computers after numerous other attempts to resolve the issue failed.

Also, I asked again if LC had caused the issue and as it turns out I actually have not ever done true launch control according to the data. The feature doesn’t activate until you’ve driven an uninterrupted 6 miles to warm engine and also doesn’t allow you to do 2 LC within 5 minutes of each other. Apparently I did accelerate quickly but not at the high RPMs launch control allows . Still not as advisable and I’m not endorsing it but just figured I’d share that information for anyone curious. No need to reiterate the negative effects of premature LC use.

Glad you got it resolved, really freak occurrence. And certainly some
aggressive acceleration on your part had nothing to do with defective
computer hardware.

Every car I have ever had I drove like I stole it from day one with not one issue. Sorry but im not buying the break in hype. If its going to break I want it to break while its under warranty!

Sounds like ours came off the production line at the same time OP. At least you have yours as mine is still in port in the U.K. awaiting delivery to my dealer as the U.K. is only just opening.

Yes you were very silly launching a new car not once but twice but upshot is nothing is damaged by the sound of things. Enjoy the new car and try and run it in properly now as it’ll be well worth it in the long run. Tbh I’ve always found BMW LC to be crap anyway and can launch better myself (at least on my 2 E92 M3s and 2 F82 M4s)

Definitely add the black trim as the stock grills on the M50i do indeed look too gold.
