What happened to Glacier Silver?

Why did they drop Glacier Silver on the G05? Such a beautiful color...

It's a shame its not a standard option as I'd have been tempted to order given it looks so smart with gloss black shadowline and black wheels.

Wife wanted silver this time....hadn't had silver in years. Or a nice metallic red (Like available in X-3). Neither available, so she picked Phytonic Blue. Silver is in everyones top 3 sellers. I don't understand.
Drop one of the 20 gray options & add silver.

I loved Glacier Silver. IMO silver is timeless.

The most popular theory, confirmed by some dealers and BMW reps, is that the Active Driving Assistant Pro cameras will not work correctly with certain light metallic colors. That is why that package was not available with Sunstone Metallic when it was offered last year. Supposedly there was also an article explaining why and it had to do with the hood design. Then again, it could just be an urban legend and BMW enjoys limiting the color choices for some reason.

I though the same thing & wanted a silver. Got Phytonic blue & love it, especially with the 2 tone ivory/blue Merino. You won't be disappointed.

I wonder if that's exclusively an issue with the X5 though. Because according to the X4 builder, you are able to equip either glacier silver or sunstone metallic with active driving assistant pro.

I think BMW just enjoys limiting color and feature choices to torture us. Why else do they offer merino leather for the 3 series everywhere in the world except the US. Even canada gets the option. I'm still bitter about that if you can't tell

Not sure why Sunstone and Driving Assistant Pro combo was pulled from US - our X5 has both, you can see the larger KAFAS camera aperture in the windscreen/windshield (it does have the 3 individual lenses too but can't see them in this photo):

No issues with Driving Assistant Pro working either, so the suggested issue of reflections from the front of the car causing malfunctions has not happened for us. So this does to be an urban legend.... just saying!

Only Active Driving Assistance Plus (DAP + ACC Stop + Go and Active Driving Assistant is available on X3/4s - at least here in the USA.

Interestingly you can order Donington Grey (sigh!!!) + DAPro on 7 Series. I'd upgrade to a X5 M50i in DG next time around if that was possible - not likely but one can dream!

Absolutely, and definitive proof that the color of the car has absolutely nothing to do with options (scientifically), other than the whims of corporate BMW, although the location of the car apparently does.

Excellent, thank you for the info. I, and I’m sure many others, were hoping for a non-US owner to prove that theory wrong.

Glad to have helped with our positive experience

Not long after our order was placed in March 19, the colour was pulled in the UK too - which caused a bit of disappointment with other customers according to our CA at the dealers. Seems to have been a 1st year option only, so glad we got it in the system before it was pulled.
