I really don't get it. If the PPF was lets say 20% the cost of an entire respray then it would make perfect sense. But BMW will literally charge 1800 to respray a bumper...the same cost as PPFing it.

PPF installers are out of their minds charging what they charge for their labor. They get away with it because the cars that get PPFd are expensive and these people (read: us) don't mind spending another 6-8K for fabricated "piece of mind"

This is the equivalent of buying a phone screen protector and cases that costs just as much as a new $1000 iphone. The best expense ratio is when you buy a $20 glass protector and a $30 case. Full protection for 5% of the phone's price. Or perhaps 10% of the cost of replacing the front and rear of the phone.
Exactly, PPF used to cost 150 a panel when I first used it. Keeping in mind that stuff yellowed in AZ after 3 years BUT at a cost of 1950 for an SUV that made sense!!! But now that you tube influencers and every dealer selling it the price is just crazy.

That's the thing too. PPF will not prevent dents as that's usually from much higher forces than rock chip forces. If a rock is big enough and traveling fast enough to dent, no PPF in the world is stopping that. So if you get a dent, you have to remove, repair dent+paint and reapply the film lol.

Honestly, the best place for PPF on these cars is the lower doors and lower rear bumper since that's were all the pebbles and sand will get kicked up by our aggressive tires.

I hate swirls, birdshit, and rockchips. So I did the whole car. Haven't looked back.

how long does it take to ppf an entire car? at 6k, the material can't be that much. in fact, someone on the forum is selling some ppf who has a wholesale account and its about 30% of the retail price. assuming material costs 1k, that's 5k to install. at $100 an hour that's 50 hours. That is a lot of $$ and also a lot of time. does it really take that long? if its done in a shorter time then its even more ludacris. having said this, I am trying to find out how much protection I am willing to pay for in addition to the front...

I just paid $6,900 for full Xpel wrap, including roof. Installer did an absolute awesome job.

Anyone did ppf after couple of years driving? My detailer was saying there could be bubbling in chipped areas even with polishing and touching up. He said after inspection he may tell for sure.
If I knew , I probably have done it when picked up! Issue it was leased initially , now purchased .
Anyone can share their own experience of ppf after 25k driving without.

Well, I did ppf on the front of the used 2023 I bought back in Nov 2023, the hood and a few areas had some paint chips, but the installer did some touch up paint and then polished them, then placed ppf on top. Is it perfect? No. Can you notice it? Yes, if you get up close, of course. Does it bother me? Not a bit. Is it bubbling? Not right now, but the ppf is 5 months old. The questions for you are: How bad is it? Why ppf now, after 25K miles? If too bad, would it be worth to take to a bodyshop and re-spray, then ppf? Your decisions to make.
