So it's just wait and see, pray and hope for the best when you collect a new car? BMW can't/won't identify the cars that are impacted?

Unfortunately that appears to be the case. Unless something recently changed, concerning the valve they have not issued an SIB or acknowledged it was a widespread issue. At first it looked like it was confined to a few weeks of production but that appears to not be what is happening.

When I called Monday to schedule the service they said they could not provide me with a loaner and I told them to rethink that response by Wednesday unless they want a very unhappy customer in the middle of the service area. Paying $90k for a car that already has issues is infuriating. I did check the VIN on the German site and it says there is an issue while the US site says nothing. They need to get their act together

Hopefully they get things working of you. Depending on the code that showed, it could just be the 8.5 update info not that there is a recall.

That is the information about 8.5 as well as the DMTL recall. Neither of those are related to your issue of course. DMTL is a software fix so that should take car of both of those when they update it. Given your production date you may be effected by the valve issue.

My 50e got both OS 8.5 and the software update for tank leaks taken care of today (got my valve replacement 6 weeks ago). Liking OS 8.5 - just more intuitive and modern.

Well I dropped my car off and it was 8.5 and DTML (BTW there is no fix for DTML right now). The dealer said there were no loaners and I lost my mind, needless to say they found me a new X5. I just got a text from the dealer asking how I liked my loaner, to which I responded it’s fine, how long will I have it? I know this will shock this group but the Refrigerant shut off valve needs to be replaced and 2.5 weeks to get it in. Let’s hope for their sake it’s not in for more than 30 days. BMW needs to issue a stop ship this is ridiculous although my service advisor is great

The DMTL fix was released yesterday and some members have had it applied already and have their vehicles.

Unfortunately not all dealers are seeing the fix in their system yet, hopefully that changes soon.

Good luck on your fix and hope the part arrives quicker than expected.

I took my out of state bought, new x5 50e, to my local dealer today in Northern Virginia for state inspection and license plate mount etc. I asked them to check for any recall etc. On their system only the information about 8.5 came up. No fuel tank leak recall was in the list even though the European BMW links show the recalls. I don't think they applied any updates and just handed me a photocopied page about 8.5 features . I'm taking my car for a 300 miles trip over the weekend and will report if I see the dreaded check engine light.

Heard from my SA: There seems to be a huge batch of replacement part for HV valve thing cleared custom 7/25 and arrived some BMW's warehouse. My SA was able to escalate with BMWNA to rush the part to service dept and install today. Guess many folks will get the fix today/tomorrow.

My SA also suggest keep the car in service dept until Monday to see if they can get the remedy for the gas tank diagnostic recall as original ETA is late July and we are almost August. They do not see the fix in their system as of morning today.

However no one know if BMW has updated the design of the part or figured out the quality issue of the part... Not sure if we will need to replace it again down the line... maybe only time can tell

Shockingly not (yet) the stuck valve. It’s “03219F
High-voltage charging socket, AC voltage temperature sensor: Excess temperature (degradation)”

SA says 3-5 weeks for part, put me in 23 X3 no questions asked.

Curiously, only one other member (rexus?) on this thread has reported a charging socket temperature issue.

How has everyone gone about contacting BMW NA? Used the hybrid service number?

Disappointing, but hopeful BMW will make it right. S.O. lusting after the idea of a potential GX550 hybrid, this is not helping the case.
Hi, mine had a similar issue. Wasn’t the stuck valve for mine. Got fixed and ever since no problems.

I'm getting my 50e (assuming it comes off Quality Check soon ) from a Maryland dealer, but my local dealer will be in Northern Virginia, too. For Virginia plates, you have to go to an in-state dealer to get them? I assumed Virginia DMV mailed them to you or you had to pick them up from DMV? Or did you mean something else? (This is the first time I will have bought a car from a non-Virginia dealer, so I wasn't sure of the process with the plates and registration.)

Congrats on your ride and good luck on your trip!

Thanks ! If you purchase car from dealer in VA, they keep pre-assigned plates that they mount while delivering the car. I assume in MD, they may issue you a temporary tag and file VA registration and title that you’ll receive in few days along with plates. Also you may have to take your car for local inspection and get the sticker.
In my case, the car came from south and it appears that front license plate in not required in every state. I received my plates by mail and took the car to my local dealer to do all of thevwork .
Good luck with delivery !

My car is safely in my garage after diagnosis, I sent my SA your post and had him coordinate with the service dept, they are still claiming many weeks for the valve parts to come in. Has anyone had the HV Battery valve replaced as of today?

TIA,

Mark

Thanks for the quick reply, I assume they have been waiting for many weeks as my CEL came on on July 24th, took delivery on 06/29. The sad thing is we have a multi thousand mile road trip planned for mid August, trying to salvage the trip with an acceptable loaner, or in a perfect world my X5 repaired.
