Unless you’re against animal skins, I’m not sure why anyone would not go with Merino. It elevates the driving/passenger experience every day. Well worth the upcharge.

I cannot find the thread but does anybody recall which thread it was stated and confirmed that with perforated centers (ventilated seats), if the leather optioned was Merino, the centers were not.....and if memory recalls on that thread, it was Nappa.

I may be totally off on the above, hence I seek that thread to revisit the statement

The center is Vernasca. Some say that is not the case anymore and it is all Merino however we have not seen anything official saying that.

Edit: Here is a thread where it is being discussed and shown in German pricing guides. https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1892900

I'm a vegetarian that has no problem with animal skins, but I'm almost astonished at how much discussion the Sensafin vs Merino vs Vernasca vs Nappa seats generates. My M3 and my previous X5 have the top of the line leather seats and I prefer the Sensafin seats in my 45e.

I tried the leather seats in the showroom and it was still the easiest $2k option to skip.

What do you prefer about sensafin over the leather options?

Sensafin seems to lack the texture of the leather so I don't seem to 'stick' to the seat as much, it was the only way to get my preferred color (cognac), and it costs $2k less.

Leather is just one of those things that wasn't worth even an extra dollar to me. 15 years ago I would have been mortified to buy a car like this without leather, but the Sensafin looks and feels so good that I just don't care any more.

If it wasn't for that posters response and me just happening to be reading that thread, I'd be none the wiser and presume it would be all Merino

It’d be super unethical and misrepresentative if BMW used Vernasca leather in the extended Merino leather seating upgrade! That isn’t mentioned anywhere on the configurator when optioning Merino upholstery. Is there a notification when selecting ventilated seats, whichever trim that option is available on, that it changes the leather type on seat centers?

Thanks as that is very insightful and as per some comments on the thread it's disappointing the BMW NA ordering guides don't include that level of detail. I have full Merino in the M850i and of course ventilated seats as that's standard. To the eyeball there is no perceivable difference between the ventilated inserts vs the rest of the seat however it makes sense that for the perforation they use a bit hardier leather.

Hah good point. I have non-ventilated full Merino seats and they are incredibly, super comfortable. Yes that is more comfortable than just regular comfortable

I still love my Merino coffee. It's in perfect condition and very comfortable with massage, ventilated, 20 way adjustment features - 2019. I cleaned and treated it with Gyeon leather shield and the ease (slickness) of getting in and out is so cool, months later. Highly recommend this ceramic treatment for all coverings.

+1. 2 yrs in, coffee merino but no massage/ventilation. Love them. Only use sonax conditioner. Look and smell brand new.
